Hospital Concurrent Coding Analyst
**Job Description:** This position uses extensive knowledge and expertise to work alongside and collaborates with Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Registered Nurses (RN) and Intermountain Physician Advisors to review complex facility encounters and assign International Classification of Diseases ICD-10 and Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) codes for claims concurrently while a patient is in a hospital. It ensures accurate capture of appropriate codes in support of the provision of value-based care by Intermountain Healthcare to appropriate populations. It ensures compliance and accurate submission of publicly reported data for all payers. It assigns ICD-10 and DRG codes to identify key populations for care delivery improvement and accurate data for patient populations. It provides specific coding expertise in the various fields of NCCI edits, Drugs and Biologicals, Revenue Codes, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, ICD-10 codes, DRG’s, physiology and anatomy. It collaborates to identifies documentation gaps and analysis trends for documentation improvement. It actively researches and responds to coding questions received by facility caregivers including CDI RNs, Quality and Physician Advisor Services MDs. This position supports higher level analytics for CDI initiatives. It also works to improve coding software workflows for optimization of reviews while patients are hospitalized. It aids in the review of quality measures including Patient Safety Indicators and Hospital Acquired Conditions to ensure documentation is in alignment with ICD-10-CM and Official Coding Guidelines as determined by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), U.S. Federal Government’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), American Hospital Association (AHA) and American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). This position provides advanced training to CDI RNs and Physician Advisor Services MDs on ICD-10 and DRG code assignment for hospitals. It develops, mentors and trains caregivers in CDI and physician roles in coding and ICD-10/DRG code assignment. It functions as a coding resource to Intermountain departments including Intermountain Physician Advisor Services and Quality. _Minimum Qualifications_ Professional coding certificate through American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). AND Six years work experience coding in an inpatient hospital setting. AND Demonstrated understanding of medical terminology, medical acronyms, anatomy and physiology. AND Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills. AND Demonstrated knowledge of government benefits and regulations related to Medicare, Medicaid or the ACA. AND Demonstrated knowledge of queries. _Preferred Qualifications_ RHIT Certification OR RHIA Certification OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Heath Information Management.
