General Statement Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non-tenurable level instruction and/or related functions. Instructors are needed to teach classes depending upon need and available funding.

Applications are accepted on a continual basis (unless otherwise indicated) and will be maintained in pool for two years. After two years, candidates will be notified to re-submit materials for continued consideration.

The Honors College Dean will review and evaluate the submitted application materials. Applicants will be notified if their application is being retained in the non-tenure track faculty hiring pool.

Appointments are on a part-time basis and vary in duration, from a couple weeks, a semester or an academic year, depending on the specific needs of the Honors College. The salary is dependent on number of courses taught and duration.

We seek individuals who work professionally and effectively with diverse individuals, possess effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to contribute positively to the academic success of the students and the mission of Montana State University. Duties and Responsibilities We hope to attract applicants who can teach in a diverse University community and have demonstrated ability in helping students from diverse backgrounds succeed.

Teach on-campus courses Advising, evaluating and assisting students Participation in weekly faculty meetings, Mondays at noon Participation in, and attendance of special events as part of the HONR 201/202 curriculum, including the Honors Presents lecture series Meeting regularly with, collaborating with, and evaluating the student fellow assigned to your section


Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Demonstrated experience working with and engaging diverse students and colleagues within and outside the department Demonstrated and effective teaching experience Master’s Degree in a relevant field combined with either college teaching experience and/or professional experience Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Doctoral degree or equivalent experience in an appropriate field of instruction or professional activity as determined by the department Academic/professional experience Demonstrated experience teaching interdisciplinary courses Demonstrated commitment to supporting a diverse body of students, faculty, and staff. Each Faculty Fellow co-facilitates with an upper-division Student Fellow who has previously taken the course.

The Program Texts and Critics are the foundational critical thinking courses required of all students in the Honors College. The theme for HONR 201, “Texts and Critics” is “Knowledge”, and for HONR 202, it is “Imagination”. Individual sections of “T&C” meet at a variety of times. Each Faculty Fellow  will co-facilitate a section of Texts and Critics with an upper-division Student Fellow who has previously taken the course. Class size is limited to 16-18 students, and discussions center on a variety of outstanding texts. Fellows who have taught “Texts and Critics” found the experience a refreshing change of pace and personally rewarding. The Department The mission of the Honors College at Montana State University is to prepare academically motivated students to think critically and independently within a challenging and supportive community, by partnering with all other colleges, departments, and programs at the university.

The College The Honors College at Montana State University provides opportunities for students to study, conduct research, and exchange ideas in a challenging and supportive interdisciplinary academic environment. In addition to taking small enrollment classes with outstanding faculty members, honors students may enroll in honors seminars and courses, and engage in independent study and research opportunities. The Honors College currently enrolls 1,700+ students representing all the academic colleges at MSU.
