Engineering Manager

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to act as a design authority for an engineering discipline with low to medium complexity. Each day, you will complete assignments on small projects or portions of larger projects in a cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by applying basic design thinking/design for excellence concepts in projects.The work model for the role is: HybridThis role is contributing to the Process Industries business in Longmeadow.You will be mainly accountable for:• Performing the role of a project engineer on mine hoisting systems and provide after-hours engineering support to customers when required.• Executing engineering functions and coordinate engineering functions done by other project team members on large and/or complex projects.• Providing platform and/or process support on large projects. • Assisting the sales departments with technical aspects (both product and process related) during the preparation of tenders.• General technical (product and/or process) support to Project and System Engineers.• Providing training and support to personnel in the Training, Service and Engineering departments.• Providing sound engineering and design input and service by following QA procedures.• Designing, configuration, documentation and specification activities for hoisting electrical projects.• Performing electrical Hoisting audits and dynamic testing when required• Compiling of a Functional Specification and participation in clarification meetings to ensure that the project is run on sound engineering principles and executed in accordance with specifications and local regulations.• Reporting the projects or service progress and status to the Engineering, Service or Project Leader/Manager.• Arranging and participate in the design, Manufacturing, Commissioning and Site Acceptance Test (SAT).• General support to clients to resolve technical problems.• Making the project team aware, implement and comply with the company Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Systems and procedures.• Keeping themselves abreast with developments in technology within ABB and within the hoisting industry.• Arranging, co-ordinate and execute Internal and customer FAT’s including acceptance sign off.• Overseeing design and construction of electrical panels.• Conducting formal risk review meetings and document results for client’s presentation.• Software and HMI design of winder specific application software. • Dimensioning of powertrain for electrical mine hoists

Qualifications for the role

Bachelor’s degree in engineering Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Hoisting Knowledge of electrical theory and systems in mine winders Knowledge of AC and DC drive systems Computer and programmable logic controller (PLC) literate Good design skills and problem-solving abilities Highly motivated and self-motivator. Strong leadership/interpersonal skills/conflict resolution/negotiation skills. Experience in the Mining Industry would be an asset Presentation and communication skills in English Good understanding of customer needs / good customer relations Strong ability to influence people, building trust and credibilityPreference will be given to previously disadvantaged candidates in line with the company's employment equity targets
