The overall function of this position is to be responsible for the activities of a crew of Mobile Equipment Operators in maintaining/repairing roads in East Baton Rouge Parish, with the primary responsibility for the vegetation control on highway right-of-way. Examples of Work Highway Foreman 1 Function Statement: The overall function of this position is to be responsible for the activities of a crew of Mobile Equipment Operators in maintain/repairing roads in East Baton Rouge. This position is located in the District 61/ Unit 510/ Baton Rouge of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent for East Baton Rouge Parish. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with minimal supervision, and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals and directives. Job Duties & Responsibilities: 55% Supervises, trains, and assists a maintenance crew in routine maintenance functions, which include pothole patching, repair of pavement buckling, cleaning or repairing drainage structures, maintain ditches, mowing, shoulder repairs, roadside litter clean up, tree removal, etc. 10% Makes certain all assigned equipment is maintained and serviced within the department guidelines to minimize equipment downtime and performs daily equipment inspections. 10% Prepare daily labor and equipment reports, enter the data in the Agile system, and order materials such as fuel, tires, and supplies/ hand equipment as needed. Also, prepare incident or accident reports and assist in preparing payrolls. 10% Ensures adequate and proper traffic control is implemented by mobilizing signs and traffic control devices as needed to protect the traveling public through the work area and makes certain they are used during maintenance activity. Also makes sure all MEO’s wear Personal Protective Equipment. 5% Conducts Performance Planning & Evaluation sessions with subordinates.
