High Voltage Electrician (OCN)

Seeking a full-time High Voltage Electrician in support of Base Operations Services (BOS) and Mission Support Services (MSS) at Ascension Auxiliary Air Field (AAAF). Join our team and grow with us as we provide best in-class services that help clients solve their most complex challenges. 

Your Impact  

Major Job Activities: 

Perform maintenance, switching operations, installation, repair, replacement, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning on transformers, switches, power circuit breakers, metal-clad switchgear line-ups, manholes, cables, protective relays, metering circuits, control circuits, and other electrical equipment used in the distribution of electric power at the 5kV, 10kV, and 20kV voltage levels.Repairs, adjusts, and installs electrical equipment including but not limited to programmable controllers and recorders, transmitters and transducers, motor control centers, power lift trucks, building lighting, heating, AC and ventilation equipment, electrical motors, complex electronic devices, control panels, relays, conduit, and switches.Operates various components on the medium and high voltage distribution electrical system including isolation switches, interrupters, capacitor banks, transformers, voltage regulators.Installs, modifies, connects, and repairs overhead and underground electrical distribution lines, insulators, grounding systems, fuses, poles, air switches and lighting arrestersOperates excavating equipment such as a JLG and or boom truck, and similar equipment.Performs various electrical trade functions such as installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment (i.e., substations, switchboards, circuit breakers, transformers, and associated hardware), associated with electrical distribution systemWorks from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications to install new systems or equipment and diagnose and repair trouble in existing electrical systems and equipment.Assists in the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of high voltage switchgear, electric switches, exciter, electric meters and other electrical equipment and apparatus.

Material & Equipment Directly Used: 

Computers, Microsoft Office, and other software products as required and standard office equipment/machinery. Hand and power tools, multi-meters, other test equipment as required.

Working Environment: 

The worker is subject to both environmental and weather conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.

Physical Activities: 

Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.No fear of heights or enclosed spaces is usually required.Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, operates, and maintains electrical systems and components of electrical power distribution and generating equipment.Performs operations and maintenance duties to maintain power to telecommunications equipment and maintains the facility’s physical electrical distribution system in good repair.Electrical work experience includes electrical installation in commercial and industrial categories.Electrician complies with National Electrical Code (NEC) 2008 for repairs and upgrades to existing construction, and NEC 2011 standards apply for new construction, contract specifications, and MIL Standards/Regulations.

Must have computer skills and be able to operate a variety of computer programs.Must be able to speak, read and write English fluentlyMust maintain a valid driver’s license from their home country with validity for 12 months from on-site employment date.Must maintain a valid passport from their home country with validity for 12 months from on-site employment dateMust be able to gain and maintain authorized entry onto US military installations.Must meet United States Department of Defense medical requirements necessary to live and work at Ascension IslandTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. Additional Required Qualifications  

Minimum Qualifications: 

Must be knowledge of electrical theory, safety regulations, and the ability to use specialized high voltage tools and equipment.Must be a US citizen with valid passport and Driver’s LicenseMust be able to obtain a secret clearance and meet pre-deployment and medical requirements.

Education / Certifications: 

High school education or equivalent. Accredited professional trade school or successful completion of apprenticeship program or military training for the electrical field.NICET 3 or NECA certification is a plus.

Experience / Skills: 

10 years’ work experience in the electrical trade.Familiarity with NECThorough understanding of electrical safety procedures and practices is essential.Ability to read electrical drawings, troubleshoot issues, and use specialized high voltage testing equipment.
