Hematology Supervisor
**Job Summary** Responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all of the functions within the shift including testing, staffing, training, scheduling, maintaining supplies, and relating with Laboratory administration, other laboratories, nursing service, and physicians. Ensures that services are the best quality, are cost contained, and are carried out in an expeditious manner. Performs laboratory testing as needed or required. Evaluates employees using laboratory and hospital guidelines and policies to include competency assessment. Encourages, professional growth and development of staff. **Essential Functions** + Communicates effectively. Establishes and maintains two way communication with peers, staff, physicians, leaders, and administration. + Adapts to change in a positive, professional manner. + Follows through on problems that may compromise patient care by using the appropriate chain of command. + Cooperates well with peers and supports group decisions. + Provides clear, consistent and legible documentation. + Maintains a clear, neat and safe environment for patients and staff. + Completes required education in a timely manner. + Consistently uses skilled communication which demonstrates congruence between words and actions and holds others accountable for doing the same. + Demonstrates population appropriate competencies for all relevant patient populations. + Ensures all proficiency testing is performed and reported in a timely manner. + Monitors quality control, trouble shoots outliers and corrects problems in a timely manner with appropriate documentation of corrective action + Maintains all equipment as prescribed by the manufacturer. Reports problems to the Admin; Director. + Always presents self as an example for staff members by wearing protective equipment, assisting with phlebotomy, and helping others complete assignments. + Successfully practices good financial management by monitoring supply usage, limiting wastage, choosing cost effective reagents. + Routinely holds staff meetings to communicate information. + Completes all staff evaluations and competency assessments in a timely manner. + Successfully establishes service priorities, work routines, and workflow patterns to provide optimal turn around times. + Willingly accepts additional duties to assist in laboratory operation and assist the Administrative Laboratory Director. + Productively delegates daily operation duties to staff to assure all section requirements are met. + Actively participates in the development and implementation of process improvements. + Performs other duties as assigned. + Complies with all policies and standards. **Qualifications** + Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science required or + Associate Degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution; or passing score on the Clinical Laboratory Technology Proficiency examination approved by HHS (HEW); or employment as a laboratory supervisor prior to January 1, 1995 in a hospital licensed by the Department of Health. required + 2-4 years experience in a clinical lab setting or medical laboratory required **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** + Ability to work with minimal supervision. + Strong organization & communication skills. + Excellent time management skills + Familiarity with laboratory equipment and procedures. + Ability to work independently and in a team environment + Knowledge of laboratory and quality control procedures. + Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols. + Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain orderly records. + Ability to analyze complex data with strong problem-solving skills. **Licenses and Certifications** + MLT - Medical Technician - ASCP preferred + Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)-AMT preferred + CLS (NCA) preferred + HEW or equivalent preferred + Certification eligible required Equal Employment Opportunity This organization does not discriminate in any way to deprive any person of employment opportunities or otherwise adversely affect the status of any employee because of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, genetic information, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, citizenship, veteran status, or military or uniformed services, in accordance with all applicable governmental laws and regulations.
