POSITION SUMMARY: The purpose of the Shop Helper is to contribute to the overall efficiency of the shop by completing semi-skilled and unskilled tasks, enabling Journeyman Technicians to dedicate their time to tasks requiring highly-skilled and technical expertise.

Basic Duties

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Load/unload components, parts, equipment and machinery.Conduct machine inventories.Conduct storage tank, shop supplies and tool inventories.Maintain and inventory inbound parts orders.Transport or deliver components and equipment as directed.Clean, pressure wash or otherwise prepare equipment, mechanical parts and components.Maintain wash bays and associated equipment.Perform general shop task and facilities clean-up as required.Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record. This includes no more than 2 minor violations within the past 3 years and no major violations within the past 5 years (Motor Vehicle will be performed on final candidate). Qualifications

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE:

Two years experience with hands-on mechanical repair work on diesel or gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, or earthmoving or industrial equipment and related certification from an accredited technical school, community college or training program.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Ability to perform high quality repairs, in an efficient fashion, and maintain a clean working environment.Must be able to work independently. Ability to use resources for information.Has good decision making practices and ability to follow directions.Demonstrates effective communication ability, representing Altorfer’s professional image to customers and office personnel. Must have good organizational skills and ability to write technical reports.  Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

This position works primarily in a shop environment. May on a continuous basis walk, bend and lift up to 75-100lbs. Will be required to wear appropriate safety equipment (IE- Safety glasses or side shields, hearing protection, etc.) for a given situation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Occasional travel may be required. The physical demands described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
