Summary You will serve as a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC INSPECTOR in the TRANSPORTATION DIVISION of NAVAL FACILITIES ENG COMMAND HAWAII. Responsibilities You will analyze work to be accomplished in light of accepted trade practices, pertinent inspection reports, specifications, drawings and sketches and assigns work in the most efficient job sequence. You will estimate labor time requirements, material quantities and costs utilizing "MEANS" or other types of estimating tools. You will coordinate with customer activities maintenance, repair and inspection. requirements. Clarifies scope of work and develops fundable or government estimates. Obtains customer funding for execution of work. You will conduct condition inspections to ensure that overall structural, mechanical, hydraulic, electronic and electrical components and systems of the equipment have been maintained in a safe and serviceable condition and are functioning properly. You will use tools, such as: hand tools, micrometers, feeler and depth gauges, dial indicators, slide and vernier calipers, voltage testers, tong meter, amp meter, tachometer, alignment scopes, flow meters and dynameter. You will review job orders, crane/hoist trouble reports, maintenance and test records, daily operators' checklist reports, blueprints, sketches, specifications and engineering procedures to ensure all items requiring inspections are evaluated. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Must possess in-depth knowledge of the mechanical, hydraulic structural, and pneumatic systems of weight handling equipment and construction equipment. 2) Must have experience equivalent to Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic or comparable trade mechanic and must be conversant with electrical systems of weight handling equipment. 3) Must be widely experienced in the usage of sensitive measuring and metering devices such as calipers, volt meters, ohm meters, clamp on amp meters, meggers, pressure gauges, flow meters, tachometers, panel meters, and compression testers to analyze operating condition of equipment. 4) Must be able to troubleshoot, localize system, deficiencies, and identify faulty component and able to perform non-destructive testing to crane components, such as hook assemblies, and analyze results. 5) Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, and blueprints associated with heavy mobile equipment.
