**Job Title: Heavy Equipment Mechanic**
**Job Description**
We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to diagnose and repair issues in diesel engines, hydraulics, brakes, transmission, steering, and other systems. This role involves performing preventative maintenance on heavy equipment such as dozers, excavators, and heavy haul trucks, as well as performing welding or fabrication tasks as necessary. The mechanic will also be responsible for preparing work orders, ordering parts, fueling equipment, and maintaining a daily log. Maintaining a clean and orderly work area and meeting other housekeeping needs is also essential.
**Responsibilities**
+ Diagnose and repair issues in diesel engines
+ Diagnose and repair issues with hydraulics, brakes, transmission, steering, and other systems
+ Perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment (e.g., dozers, excavators, heavy haul trucks)
+ Perform welding or fabrication tasks on equipment as necessary
+ Prepare work orders and order parts
+ Fuel equipment and maintain daily log
+ Maintain a clean and orderly work area
+ Perform additional assignments as needed
**Essential Skills**
+ General labor and equipment check
+ Experience as a Crane Mechanic
+ Loader, Dozer, Excavator Mechanic skills
+ Ability to troubleshoot and repair construction and heavy equipment
+ Pipelaying experience
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in the heavy construction industry
+ Diesel technician or mechanic degree is a plus
+ Welding experience is a plus

**Work Environment**
This role involves working outdoors from Monday to Saturday with 10-12 hour workdays. The position requires the ability to perform physical activities that involve considerable use of arms, legs, and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, Virginia.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
