Health Unit Coordinator - Days

We are seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to join our Acute Care team! This benefits eligible position will work days including every third weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) from 6:00am – 6:30 pm for a total of 4 days every two weeks (48 hours).   This position is on a “block” schedule so always know when you work months ahead.  

Health Unit Coordinators are very important members of our patient-care team.  Responsibilities include greeting all patients and family members at the nurses’ station, answering patient intercom calls, assisting with patient discharge, performing order transcription, taking physician orders and performing chart maintenance. 

Job Summary:

The Health Unit Coordinator provides support and customer service through a variety of designated functions and responsibilities to professional staff, patients, and visiting community members.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Assists with management of patient healthcare information to facilitate patient flow and communication needs within the admission, transfer, and discharge processes. Assures discharge information is faxed/ sent to providers within 1 day of discharge. Maintains expertise in internal communication systems and processes needed to support provision of direct patient care, and completes notifications as delegated for routine daily patient needs (paging of physicians) as well as for urgent and emergent needs (Manpower needed, RAT calls, Medical Emergencies). Monitors, tracks, supports quality initiatives. (Core Measures, productivity stats). Provides other clerical support as needed for maintenance of an accurate patient record and general unit organization. Serves as an organizational resources and communication point during episodes of downtime for the electronic medical record system. Utilizes professional customer service skills to give direction and assist internal and external customers with questions and concerns. Facilitates interdisciplinary and interdepartmental communication and collaboration as able. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Education, Training or Degree Required:

Formal training with experience in medical terminology preferred. Strong Administrative skills.

Experience and Skills: (indicate preferred or required)

Strong oral and written communication skills required. Strong customer service skills required. Ability to work within Microsoft office preferred.
