About the AMA’s Advocacy Unit The AMA advocates at the federal and state levels on key health care issues impacting patients and physicians. As a health care advocacy organization made up of dedicated and engaged physicians, the AMA works to inform lawmakers, guide decision-making, and generate support for policies on critical issues that impact physicians, patients, and the health care environment at both the national and state levels. Internship Overview Time Commitment:The summer internship is full-time (approximately 37.5 hours per week) for 10 weeks and will be paid. No course credit will be offered at this time. Compensation:At $30/hour approx. $11,250.00 Location:One intern will be selected to work in the AMA’s Washington, D.C. Office. The candidate selected will report to the Director of Health Equity in the Advocacy Division. While the internship can be accomplished via a hybrid work schedule, the intern must be able to work in-person in the AMA’s Washington, D.C. Office at least 3 days per week. Responsibilities:Intern responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: + Performing legal research related to health law topics; + Drafting memoranda, summaries, analyses, and recommendations on various health policy issues; + Tracking new legislation and regulatory developments; + Drafting, reviewing, editing and/or updating advocacy documents; + Drafting, reviewing, editing and/or updating internal documents such as policies and procedures; + Preparing materials for council or board of directors’ meetings; and + Attending local webinars and in-person meetings on a variety of health equity topics Eligibility Criteria:To be eligible, you must be a rising 3L or currently enrolled in a graduate law school degree program (LLM), at an American Bar Association accredited law school, as of the summer of 2025. Candidates must have health law-related research interests in areas such as public health law, regulatory impacts on health, and health equity. Preferred candidates will have previous health law or health policy experience, and knowledge or experience in national health law.
