Responsibilities

Position Summary
Manages Health Information Services involving release of information, medical
record processing, MyChart Patient Inquiries, audits and investigations

 

Job Roles
Safety
• Manages processes effectively in regard to employee safety.
Record Keeping
• Maintains all required records, reports, statistics, logs, files and other
documents as required, including but not limited to payroll, schedules and
status changes.
Department Management
• Maintains accountability for department, making independent decisions to
implement strategies and programs for patient care.
• Delegates authority and accountability to staff to ensure optimal outcomes
and staff engagement.
• Evaluates effectiveness of unit/department based programs and processes to
ensure optimal outcomes.
Process Improvement
• Promotes a culture of process improvement by establishing unit/department
based programs that supports the system’s process improvement goals.
• Actively participates on system-wide or hospital-based teams.
Staffing
• Manages the unit/department effectively in regards to staffing and staff
supervision.
Role Specific Responsibilities
• Collaborates with HI Corporate Director and hospital leadership in
developing hospital related health information policies and procedures
• Assist the Privacy Officer and/or act on privacy related matters in according to
policies and procedures as delegated by Privacy Officer .
• Collaborates with SIH HI leadership and hospital leadership in health information
operational strategies and needs
• Manages and supervises the day-to-day operations of the SIH the health
information department and staff, that includes but is not limited to:
o Release of Information functions in response to request of medical records
by patients, insurers, workman’s comp, healthcare providers, agencies and
organizations.
o Document Management and Chart Analysis functions to assure a
complete patient medical record.
o Monitoring, managing and communicating provider documentation needs.
o Birth Certificate intake and completion process.
• Reporting required statistics and data to state registries. Performs ongoing
review of medical record related accreditation and regulatory standards. Take
action as required to meet the standards.
• Performs HIPAA audits, investigations, and training.

Qualifications

Education
• Required associate degree in Health Information Technology
• Preferred bachelor’s degree in health information management or healthcare
management.

 

Licenses and Certification
• RHIA or RHIT preferred

 

Experience and Skills
• 3 years Technical experience
