Health and Nutrition Technical Manager

Key Responsibilities:

To provide technical expertise, lead and coordinate the implementation of an integrated approach for health, nutrition and HIV technical programme for WV Burundi in order to achieve the overall WV Burundi National strategy and to ensure sustainable transformational development. Under the supervision of Programme Development & Quality Assurance Director, he/she will contribute to the accountability on the delivery of Health and Nutrition Technical Programme objectives.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Resource Acquisition: 

Support the process of identification, assessment and design of new Health and Nutrition projects, including developing project proposals in line with the LEAP framework in emergency and development settings in collaboration with the Resource Acquisition Team.

Building Capacity:

Provide regular coaching to  Health & Nutrition project implementation teams, conduct their  capacity assessments, develop and conduct targeted trainings for  Health & Nutrition project implementation teams geared at facilitating timely and quality delivery of emergency and development programmes. 

Staff performance Management

Provide technical inputs in staff Health & Nutrition project implementation teams performance management process. Act as matrix manager to Health and Nutrition Technical Coordinators.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting & Planning:

Support Health and Nutrition sector programs planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting processes, with development of tools that can facilitate effective implementation and quality of project deliverables in both development and emergency settings.

Technical inputs and contribute to capitalization and advocacy:

Review, provide inputs and endorse Health, Nutrition and HIV programs technical matters, including providing support to the process of procurement, supply and delivery of all equipment, materials, staffing, budget monitoring and all other necessary inputs for successful project outcomes in collaboration with relevant WV departments. Ensure appropriate documentation of evolutions/changes within approaches implemented in both emergency and development settings are updated for feeding advocacy purposes to support the development of a multi-sectorial WV Burundi advocacy strategy and its implementation at National level.

Mainstreaming:

Contribute to the mainstreaming of cross-cutting issues in all WVB Health, Nutrition and HIV development and emergency programmes

, in particular the integration of peace, child protection, disability, gender, youth programing,  environmental, faith and development.  Ensure focus on Child Well-being outcomes, in particular the Health outcomes, in all Health, Nutrition and HIV programs.

Information Management:

Support keeping accurate and up-to-date records of all programme documents, resources, documentation, lessons learnt and Best practices, and facilitate their circulation and use within the NO, across the partnership and with partners.

Innovation:

Conduct research and evidence-based documentation in alignment to health and nutrition project modules. Facilitate the introduction of new, innovative practices, methodologies or concepts in WVB Health, Nutrition & HIV development and emergency programmes. 

Contribution to the quality, accountability and impact measurement process of programs:

Coordinate the implementation of the recommendations made as a result of internal and external assessments, lead any health, Nutrition & HIV relevant survey in emergency and Development settings at required time of the different programs

Risk Management:

Contribute to cultivate risk sensitive and management culture in nutrition and ensure the major risks are monitored shared on quarterly basics and tentative solutions are found and implemented

Required Professional Experience

5 to 10 years’ experience with health programs in a comparable organisation

Master’s degree in public health or related field with a strong health backgroundStrong management, and capacity building skills neededGood facilitation skillsExcellent time management skillsExperience in project design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and report writingEnthusiastic and self-motivating. Must have an interest in health and well-beingAbility to work independently and work under pressureAbility to use initiative and adopt a proactive approachAbility to prioritize and manage workloadMust be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.Attend and participate/lead in daily devotions and weekly Chapel services.Perform other duties as required.Education to master's level in Public Health, Nutrition, or a related subjectAt least 5 years' experience of working internationally in health and nutrition programmes including in a humanitarian contextPrevious experience of providing technical support to Health and Nutrition teams in the areas of child and maternal health, IYCF-E, IMAM/CMAM, and Micronutrients.Proven ability of mentoring, coaching and training on health and nutrition subjectsExperience of senior level representationExperience of developing and negotiating successful partnerships with institutional donorsAbility to write clear and well-argued assessments, project reports, and proposalsExcellent communication skills, politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacyProven ability to influence change at an operational and strategic level.A high level of written and spoken EnglishThe capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.Can work well in stressful situations; able to manage multiple competing tasks, prioritize deliverables and meet reasonable deadlines
