This position is located in our 16100 North 71st Street Scottsdale office.

Western World has been providing commercial brokers with non-admitted insurance solutions for over a half century. Its experience in the contract bind property, casualty and garage segments, combined with the capabilities of Lexington Insurance, enhances AIG’s ability to provide non-admitted solutions from Main Street to Wall Street.  It’s an integral part of Lexington writing $450m of GWP and 14% of Lexington’s total GWP. 

About the role:

Reporting to the CEO of Lexington Insurance Company, the Head of Western World will oversee a team of approximately 45 underwriting professionals. They will encourage and lead by example, a market-centric culture based on strong partnerships with brokers and clients, combined with thought leadership activities, industry experience, and strategic innovation to position Lexington and our solutions best-in-class. The Head of Western World sits on the CEO’s Executive Leadership Team and will be based in Scottsdale Arizona, where majority of the team is located.  

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Strategic vision & business leadershipOversee the Lexington Western World vision and value proposition that anticipates and responds to changing business and competitive environment dynamics, key business drivers, and financial elements to deliver exceptional value to the marketplace.Develop, position, market, and deliver innovative, market-leading products and services to a focused network of brokers in a manner that effectively leverages our strengths as a competitive differential in the marketplace.Establish and implement a long-term business strategy for Lexington Western World, focusing on risk appetite that impacts ROE and effectively manages riskEnsure an effective reinsurance strategy that supports our risk appetite for per risk and aggregation across all product lines, as well as active management of the portfolio.Profitability & operational excellenceDrive the development of growth and profitability strategies for the Western World business.Responsible for the achievement of financial targets for revenue, profit and growth, includes GWP, GAAP Underwriting Profit, GOE and PTOI targets.Continually review portfolio performance to inform and optimize risk selection, volatility management, attachment, terms, limits, and price to achieve near and long-term profitability goals.Drive consistent distribution and underwriting best practices and guidelines to ensure rating and pricing adequacy of the business.Develop and operationalize detailed monitoring standards, including quality reviews to assess underwriting results and loss ratios down to the account level.Collaborate with the Lexington Chief Actuary on technical pricing across all lines of business.Partner with the AIG North America Chief Underwriting Officer to define and deliver appropriate underwriting authority to the field underwriters.Talent development & team managementCoach, mentor and develop a national team of ~45 professionals, including 4 direct reports.Develop tools and strategies, in collaboration with HR, to attract and retain top talent and develop high-performing and meritocratic teams that reward and promotes from within.Ensure a culture of accountability through team awareness of and adherence to necessary regulatory and compliance processes.Internal partnership & organizational effectivenessPartner cross-functionally with Finance, HR, Compliance, etc. to leverage enterprise tools and processes to maximize efficiencies and manage operational risk.Establish strong relationships with peer leaders across other Lexington businesses, e.g. Lexington Property, Lexington Casualty, and Professional Lines (LexPro, A&E and Helthcare); align on shared enterprise parameters and targets to drive effective execution and advance overall growth and profitability goals.Work with AIG Distribution leadership to ensure channel clarity and market coordinationThrough Claims, CRS and Analytics continue to enhance our view of risk and strengthen our ability to partner with our clients to ensure a reputation of Claims excellence in the marketplace.

Qualifications:

Broad based insurance industry experience with specialization in contract bindAt least 15+ years of insurance operational management experience and proven experience in the excess and surplus insurance lines specialty marketStrong Wholesale Broker relationshipsKnowledge of market segmentation, portfolio management, acquisition and distributionProcess and system skillsStrategic orientation, managing vision and purpose, developing organizational capabilityStrong influencing and communications skills and ability to work across multiple areas of company and industriesExpert technical underwriting background with advanced knowledge of third-party insurance for all industriesStrong problem solving and conflict resolutionSkilled leader of change; versatile, client focused and results oriented
