Head of Vaccine Medical Affairs, Vaccines

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Head of Vaccine Medical Affairs (HVMA), Vaccines is responsible for leading an organization of global vaccines medical affairs colleagues responsible for the generation of strategic medical brand plans, scientific late stage/brand communications and the external engagement strategy to support the end-to-end vaccine R&D pipeline and inline vaccine commercial products.

 

The HVMA reports to the Chief Vaccines Officer (CVO) and partners closely with the head of Vaccine Clinical Research and Development, Research Heads, the CMO evidence generation groups and commercial partners to ensure that there is an aligned strategy and consistent medical plan that includes the strategic evidence generation plan, data communication and external engagements for each asset, and that it is effectively disseminated to internal stakeholders. A key accountability is the vaccine recommendation strategy, interactions with vaccine technical groups and the interface with the in country medical affairs teams. The Vaccine Medical Affairs group is instrumental in leading external stakeholder communications for vaccine brand associated opinion leaders and recommending bodies (in partnership with the associated regions).

 

Working with the regulatory, clinical, commercial and research groups, the Vaccine Medical Affairs group will contribute to the label design and apply key desired label features to the medical plan. This will include:

 

·       Lead the development and execution of the medical evidence plan that complements the clinical development plan to ensure that each vaccine has a comprehensive integrated evidence generation plan prior to the initiation of the pivotal studies and throughout its lifecycle

·       Identify and lead epidemiological studies to support vaccine development

·       As needed, support the clinical team with global clinical site selection, working with the regional medical partners

·       With in country medical affairs, provide data to support vaccine technical committees

·       With in country medical affairs, provide data to support vaccine access committees

 

The HVMA is responsible for working with the regional medical groups to provide consistent messaging of Pfizer’s internal data in addition to key brand specific publications. The HVMA also ensures that the medical plan provides the integrated, country-specific evidence generation plans.

 

The HVMA is responsible for the brand associated Global Medical Affairs Teams (GMATs), whose role is to establish and deliver the strategic global medical brand plan. This team will be responsible for the prioritization and oversite for any study designed to generate brand specific data that is not from a Pfizer sponsored clinical study. Non-interventional clinical studies and CRCs that support methodology and early research, though reviewed by this group, will be the accountability of the Clinical/Research heads.

 

The HVMA will be accountable for vaccine effectiveness studies that are conducted post licensure with public health authorities and healthcare networks for the purpose of major label changes. Working with the Medical Evidence Generation group, the Vaccine Medical Affairs group will partner on epidemiology studies designed to generate regional specific effectiveness and safety data.

 

The HVMA is expected to build and maintain strong opinion leader relationships as appropriate. This includes the dissemination of data and for interactions with the commercial organization field staff, key global and regional opinion leaders and vaccine experts, Vaccine Recommending Committees, International Organizations (e.g. WHO), Governments, Medical Associations, patient advocates and advocacy organizations, and other key external stakeholders. The HVMA is also responsible for the appropriate use of Pfizer vaccines, participating as a core member in benefit-risk and labeling decisions. The incumbent will also gather customer insights that inform Pfizer’s medical, research, development, and commercial activities. 

The HVMA is responsible for contributing to the productivity of Pfizer Commercial business by enhancing medical leadership and professionalism, assuring clear prioritization, effectively managing budgets and people within and across departments and regions, and collaborating to compliantly provide medical expertise to commercial strategies and initiatives. This includes responsibility for managing talent in his/her organization in alignment across all Medical Affairs at Pfizer and ensuring that his/her organization adheres to the common applicable guidance.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES :

QUALIFICATIONS :

REQUIRED SKILL SET

MD or PhD degree is required; with relevant specialization in infectious diseases and/or public health. The annual base salary for this position ranges from $330,000.00 to $550,000.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 45.0% of the base salary.
