Job Description

Key focal point for the Uganda entities tax matters and across all tax obligations to provide an enabling and favorable tax environment and tax understanding in the business, liaison with all internal and external stakeholders such as URA, Government, Consulting firms, Government agencies among others, in all matters tax.

Overall tax compliance across all relevant tax areas. Tax management to ensure nil exposure, management of effective tax rate and tax planning to ensure operational, administrative and cash flow efficiencies.

TAX COMPLIANCE

Review of monthly and yearly tax returns of the entities once they fall due

Review of tax paid schedules to be used to settle the taxes payable for the period

Ensuring compliance to tax regulations and law of filling the returns by due dates to avoid the penalties and interests charged for non-compliance.

TAX RECONCILIATIONS

Review of reconciliation of tax ledger control accounts, balance sheet substantiation of tax related accounts and tax journals.

TAX REPORTING

Review of information necessary for calculations of tax expense and necessary explanations to Group tax team from the respective line of businesses and country perspective.

1st level review of Tax packs and computations prepared by Reporting Accountants and junior tax analyst to ensure accurate commentaries and explanations.

Coordinate review responses for timely resolution of queries from EA Head of Tax and OMAR Tax team.

Review of Tax notes prepared by Reporting accountants to ensure the accuracy of tax expense in the financials as well as proper explanations and disclosures

Review of tax reports required for submission to E. Africa and OMAR Tax Function such as Taxes paid schedules, compilation of tax returns repositories.

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

Central coordination person between the revenue authority/ tax advisors and group tax team on tax matters in the respective entities

TAX RISK AND ISSUES MANAGEMENT

Managing and maintaining tax risk and issues tracker relating to the respective entities

Identification of Root causes of tax issues and implementation of mitigation measures

Timely escalation of key tax risks and issue identified to the Head of Tax, CFOs and OMAR Tax teams

Tax Planning and Process improvement

Developing strategies to minimize tax liabilities while adhering to legal requirements. This may involve analyzing financial data to identify tax-saving opportunities. Management of effective tax rate.

 Manage tax refunds and mitigate risks of tax overpayments to the revenue authorities.

Champion the implementation and review of the standard tax operating procedures (SOPs) and continuously embed internal control improvements in the businesses.

Analyzing current tax processes and suggesting improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Support with transfer pricing/SLA reviews and documentation.

In house Consultancy

Advising Finance Operations, compliance, reporting and other business unit teams to ensure accurate application of tax law changes on a day-to-day basis.

Staying updated on changes in tax laws and regulations. Analyzing how these changes impact the organization and advising on necessary adjustments. Upskilling the business teams on tax matters.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

At least our seven years’ experience in a tax advisory/accounting or law firm.

QUALIFICATIONS

University degree in a business-related field or a bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) from a recognized universityA fully qualified and certified public accountant or ACCA qualification/Certified Tax Advisor/Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT) is an added advantage.

This role is responsible for interpreting the various RSA tax acts and assist with the provision of advice and guidance to all business units on minimizing tax risks. The incumbent is individually accountable for achieving results through own efforts, over periods of 3 months to a year.( Specialist).

ResponsibilitiesTax

Manage the development and/or delivery of a significant element of the organization's tax systems.

Data Collection and Analysis

Use data from a wide range of sources to analyze key themes and identify possible impacts on the business.

Data Management

Manage key aspects of the data management system. This includes being responsible for developing or operating key elements of the system.

Insights and Reporting

Contribute to the design and creation of reporting strategies and templates. Lead execution of complex reports, identifying and interpreting complex patterns and trends, and translating those insights into actionable recommendations.

Document Preparation

Write and edit material for various target populations, tailoring the tone and content to match the needs and expectations of each audience.

Financial Policies, Guidelines, and Protocols

Create a plan to deliver and review financial policies, guidelines, and protocols to ensure the company complies with regulations and good financial practice.

Information and Business Advice

Provide specialist advice on the interpretation and application of policies and procedures, resolving queries and issues and referring very complex or contentious issues to others.

Financial Management and Control

Work within established systems to deliver prescribed outcomes for a designated area of financial control.

Operational Compliance

Maintain and renew a deep knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, and ensure own work adheres to required standards. Or identify, within the team, patterns of noncompliance with the organization's policies and procedures and with relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, taking appropriate action to report and resolve these and escalating issues as appropriate.

Personal Capability Building

Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
