Head of Learning and Development

Purpose of the role:

Design, implement, and oversee learning and development initiatives within our organization. You will be responsible for creating a culture of continuous learning and professional growth, ensuring that our employees have the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles and drive the company's success. This role requires a strategic mindset, strong leadership abilities, and a passion for empowering individuals to reach their full potential.

This role will report to the Executive Head: People and Transformation, your responsibilities will include:

Key Responsibilities:

Learning Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive learning strategy aligned with the company's goals and objectives. This includes identifying learning needs, designing learning programs, and evaluating their effectiveness. Leadership Development: Design and implement leadership development programs to nurture and develop the next generation of leaders within the organization. Provide coaching and support to current and aspiring leaders. Employee Training: Oversee the design, delivery, and evaluation of employee training programs across various departments and levels. Ensure that training programs are engaging, relevant, and contribute to the development of key competencies. Talent Management: Partner with HR and departmental leaders to identify high-potential employees and create tailored development plans to support their career growth. Implement strategies to retain top talent and address skills gaps within the organization. BBBEE Management of scorecard: Manage and recommend programs and initiatives that align with business requirements and meet the requirements of the BBBEE Codes  Learning Technologies: Stay abreast of emerging learning technologies and trends. Explore and implement innovative solutions to enhance the delivery and accessibility of learning content, such as e-learning platforms, virtual reality, and gamification. Performance Management: Collaborate with HR to integrate learning and development initiatives into the performance management process. Track and measure the impact of learning programs on employee performance and business outcomes. Funding & Budget Management: Manage the learning and development budget effectively, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently to support strategic priorities and maximize return on investment. Ensure that the business secures funding for further training and development for employees and unemployed youth Stakeholder Engagement: Manage and maintain positive and meaningful relationships with various Group  stakeholders(Naspers & Prosus), W&R SETA, QCTO etc Vendor Management: Evaluate and select external training vendors and consultants as needed. Negotiate contracts and oversee the delivery of outsourced learning services to ensure quality and value for money. Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure that all learning programs comply with relevant regulations and industry standards. Establish quality assurance processes to monitor the delivery and effectiveness of training initiatives. Internal Communication: Communicate regularly with employees to promote learning opportunities, gather feedback, and celebrate success stories. Foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Qualification and Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, or a related field. ODETDP qualification or relevant senior level L&D experience 8-10 years experience in a senior learning and development role, with a track record of designing and implementing successful learning programs in a retail environment

Learning Design and Delivery: Proficiency in instructional design principles and adult learning theory to create engaging and effective learning programs tailored to the needs of diverse learners. Talent Development: Understanding of talent management principles and practices, including identifying high-potential employees, creating development plans, and succession planning. Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey learning objectives, provide feedback, and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Change Management: Ability to manage and support individuals through organizational change, including implementing new learning technologies or processes. Data Analysis: Strong analytical skills to assess the impact of learning initiatives, track key performance indicators, and make data-driven decisions to improve learning outcomes. Budget Management: Proficiency in managing learning and development budgets, allocating resources effectively, and maximizing return on investment. Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), e-learning authoring tools, and other learning technologies to enhance the delivery and accessibility of learning content. Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations related to employee training and development, including compliance training requirements. Vendor Management: Experience in selecting, negotiating contracts with, and managing external training vendors and consultants. Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying updated on emerging trends and best practices in learning and development, and willingness to pursue professional development opportunities.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities

Strong leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve high performance. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Strategic thinking and analytical abilities, with a focus on driving business results through effective talent development strategies. Knowledge of learning technologies and digital learning trends, with the ability to leverage technology to enhance the learning experience. Familiarity with performance management systems and processes. Experience managing budgets and vendor relationships. Certification in training and development (e.g., ODETDP) is a plus.
