Head of Large Case Unit

The Opportunity:

We have created a new Head of Large Case Unit role, focused on our growing business from our top MassMutual's Financial Advisors. Your focus will be to create a culture focused on concierge service for our largest cases and top advisors, while maintaining a strong risk culture. You will be accountable to assist the Chief Life Underwriter to establish and drive the strategic direction of life underwriting operations for this channel in alignment with the broader underwriting strategy. You will operationalize the strategy and implement solutions to improve underwriter, producer/advisor/financial professional, and customer experience. You will demonstrate accountability, agility, a dedication to being inclusive, a strong business acumen, and will show courage, even in the most difficult situations. THE IMPACT
You will lead an underwriting operations organization of large case-level, highly experienced underwriters supporting our MassMutual Financial Advisors distribution across multiple geographic locations.

Assist the Chief Life Underwriter in recruiting, developing, and retaining a talented, diverse, and highly engaged workforce. Foster a culture aligned to our purpose, values and strategy and role-model our values and behaviors in all that you do.Lead the Large Case Unit underwriting, providing efficient, quality service to the field offices and advisors, while ensuring staffing model meets variable and growing demands. Strive to improve the organization's proficiency and professionalism through continuing education and various development efforts. Assume full ownership/accountability of underwriting decisions within your approval authority, including responding to escalations within your authority.
Collaborate with the Chief Life Underwriter to challenge the status quo and bring the organization forward in its approach to all aspects of their roles. This priority will ensure risk selection excellence while the organization drives to sustainable and material improvement to operations costs, quality, and cycle-time.  This aligns with the broader strategy of MassMutual (e.g., ease of doing business for producers/customers and efficient cost base).Assist the Chief Life Underwriter to identify, implement and monitor key performance metrics, and establish methods to appropriately monitor against targets.Build and maintain field presence/relationships through agency visits, conference attendance, training, and case discussions.Maintain competitive awareness through participation in industry events and associations, study groups, etc.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

15+ years of Life Underwriting experienceAuthority limit of $25M or higher at MassMutual or a prior carrierDemonstrated knowledge of all aspects of risk selection (medical, non-medical, financial)Medical terminology acumen with the ability to make sound risk decisions based on medical dataSeasoned leader with proven ability to successfully develop and execute strategic plansHighly skilled in identifying the latest trends within the life insurance industry, analyzing the competitive environment, identifying opportunities and areas for success, and mediating with our Reinsurance partners to achieve results.Proven ability to interact and collaborate effectively with others; viewed by peers, Home Office associates, field associates and underwriting management as a professional in risk selection


THE IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

College degree, or equivalent years of experience, preferredIndustry designations/education (FALU, FLMI, CLU) preferredExperience working with/established relationships with facultative reinsurersExcellent communication skills: analytical, negotiating, and interpretative skillsExcellent interpersonal skillsExperience working with all types of distribution channelsStrong knowledge of value of new business, profits and product shelf/riders to prudently manage mortalityData- driven with the ability to analyze, dissect, gather, and interpret all facets of data related to the business

Salary Range: $152,100.00-$199,600.00
