Human Resources leads the implementation of the Group’s people strategy in line with business objectives. It facilitates talent management, succession planning and employee mobility while defining and overseeing frameworks that support employee performance management, reward, learning and development, resourcing and engagement.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Head of Employee Relations, Singapore and Pacific.

Principal Responsibilities

Oversight and accountability for ensuring that a consistent approach is adopted for critical ER/IR issues. Ownership for consistent delivery of Employee Relations (ER) strategy, framework and operating principles for Singapore and Pacific which is aligned with HSBC Group guidelines and local legislative requirements. Ensuring HSBC values are observed in our ER dealings with our people with core coverage Singapore (3.3K employees) and oversight for an additional 8K employees in PacificLead/manage ER for Singapore and oversight coverage for Pacific with ownership for consistent delivery of Employee Relations (ER) strategy, framework and operating principles which is aligned with HSBC Group guidelines and local legislative requirementsLead all aspects of Employee Relations within HSBC Singapore to deliver a fair, consistent and transparent approach to people which helps to drive performance and success

Key Tasks Responsibilities of the jobholder may include the following:

Develop, plan and lead the implementation of HSBC’s Employee Relations Policy initiatives within Singapore Pacific to support strategic business imperatives of the BankDevelop/manage a comprehensive Employee Relations governance framework and ensure initiatives implemented are alignedManage Employee Relations activities and ensure its delivery of a professional, effective and responsive ER service at optimal costLiaise with relevant parties to design implementation of HR/ER policies in compliance with local labour laws, regulations and Group guidelinesProvide education and awareness to HR colleagues and line managers on ER matters, striving for consistency and sharing of best practices Proactive oversight/management of employee grievances, personal conduct, whistleblowing cases and executive escalations in line with HSBC protocols Partnering and providing advice and expertise for transformation projects e.g. reorganization and restructuringClose liaison and engagement with internal stakeholders across Singapore and Pacific countries and within ASP regionWork in partnership with Employment Legal and external counsel to manage employment related litigationDevelopment of Singapore Pacific Industrial Relations strategy, aligned with Group IR strategy to ensure proactive engagement and positive relationships are maintained Promote effective employee/employer partnership to foster a positive work environmentCreate an ER community within Pacific countries; facilitate sharing of best practices, ensure consistency of standards/approach and leverage the expertise of colleagues across the regionSupporting Singapore’s growth strategy focusing on developing the Asia Wealth proposition whilst delivering the HSBC’s Group strategic priorities of managing our cost base whilst supporting revenue growthIncreasing compliance and regulatory requirements have resulted in transformation in the industry that require a lot of changes in relation to people including role and structural changesUnderstanding of the people context in Singapore and being able to explore jointly with the HR and business leader’s effective approaches to mitigate the People risk e.g. governance and cultural nuancesGuiding customers in managing disciplinary issues in compliance with applicable laws regulations and internal policiesSound ability to adapt work style to meet complex and varied workloadsSound ability to prioritise workloads in terms of people and legal risk and commercial considerationsMaintain knowledge of HSBC Group operations and policiesSound ability to think independently, demonstrating sound judgment whilst being mindful of maintaining an appropriate balance between employee engagement, people risk and mitigation of legal risk and business efficacySound ability to adapt communication style and content to appropriately address one’s audience and to distill and communicate complex ideas in an understandable manner assisting the client to make difficult decisionsEnhanced relationship with management stakeholders, instilling confidence Sound ability to balance the need for further analysis and the need for a timely decision given commercial pressures Capability Development - Lead, coach and develop ER colleagues, HR Generalist colleagues and Line Managers on Employee Relations Aspects. Given the young line manager population, cultural differences, varied regulatory aspects across Countries, this will be a tough taskLiaison with various internal stake holders i.e. Group ER, HSBC Confidential etc. to effectively strategize and manage complex issues (Disciplinary Issues, Grievances, HSBC Confidential, Executive Escalations, Capability processes etc.)
