We have an incredible opportunity for a Head of Editorial role for the Japan Music Team to come and join the band. The Editorial team build best-in-class music experiences to enrich every moment of users’ lives via crafting and curating playlists across an extensive range of genres, themes, moods and more, building playlist brands and creating cultural partnerships. The ideal candidate is a dedicated team player, flexible, courageous and eager to lead change to improve the opportunities for artists to be successful on the Spotify platform.
The Editorial team sits within the Music org and will work very closely with other teams in the same department, such as Artist and Label Partnerships and Music Planning & Operations. Other key internal partners and teams include Marketing, Studios, Ad Sales as well as Music teams in international markets.
As the Head of Editorial, you will be the music and culture expert for Japan within Spotify. You will drive the growth of consumption, locally and across the world and build outstanding music experiences for listeners using your analytical skills and insights into music, culture, and consumer behavior. You'll manage a team of editors to develop and implement the long term Japanese music curation strategy and build long term value for Spotify across the regions.
The Head of Editorial supports the Head of Music Japan in the formulation, development and execution of Spotify’s wider Music Team strategy and vision. What You'll DoDevelop and implement the Japanese music curation policy and editorial strategyWork with the Head of Music to provide local guiding principles and team policies across Music Editorial Japan and the Music TeamWork cross functionally with other Music Team Leads to ensure alignment and fulfill company strategic goalsWork within the Global Music Editorial leads team to contribute to Global Editorial planning and strategyLead, manage, develop and encourage the team, building a fruitful team culture that combines creativity with data-driven decision makingMaintain and expand Spotify Japan’s playlist portfolio, including supervising the team’s identification and substantiating of programming and playlist hypothesesLead Music Editorial representation in cross-functional bets and projectsAnalyze data and performance indicatorsCreation, adoption and enforcing of Global policies for the Music Editorial team in JapanOccasional travel requiredWho You Are10 years+ of relevant experience in the music and entertainment industry in the Japan marketYou have a strong understanding of the music industry in Japan and an excellent reputation amongst your network of label and artist contactsSignificant experience of successfully leading a diverse teamYou have the ability to work under pressure along with problem solving and decision making abilitiesYou are able to inspire others around you and communicate your vision to empower your co-workersDeep understanding of modern music styles and wider cultural influences, and continually strive to stay abreast of current trends.
