We’re looking for an experienced Head of Data to join our team.
The Position
HappyCo is seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Data to lead the development and execution of our data strategy, ensuring alignment with the company’s goals and product roadmap. This role will set the technical direction for data-related initiatives, overseeing architecture, warehousing, analytics, and reporting to unlock the full potential of data-driven decision-making.
As a key collaborator, the Head of Data will work across departments to understand organizational data needs, developing and maintaining scalable data infrastructure to support storage, reporting, and security requirements. This role will implement best practices for ETL/ELT pipelines, data governance, and cost-effective utilization of cloud services and tooling. This person will also provide leadership and mentorship to the data team members and others in Product and Engineering, fostering growth and innovation while promoting a culture of excellence.Core ResponsibilitiesDefine and drive the data strategy to support the company’s overall goals and product roadmapSet technical and product direction for data-related initiatives including data architecture, warehousing, analytics, and reportingCollaborate with stakeholders across company departments to understand data and insight needsDevelop and maintain scalable data architecture and infrastructure that meets current and future needs for storage, reporting, securityImplement best practices for secure and scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and data governanceProvide mentorship and leadership for data team members, fostering an environment of growth and individual developmentMonitor and effectively manage utilization and cost of data products, cloud services, and third-party toolingWhat we think you need to be successfulAt least 7  years of proven experience delivering and executing on a strategic vision in data engineering, data warehousing, or enterprise reportingExperience with BI and data warehouse tools, databases and data modeling, (relational, document SQL or NoSQL)Excellence in data modeling techniques and strategiesProgramming and scripting skills (python, bash preferred) Experience working in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP (preferred)Experience managing and mentoring junior data engineers and/or analystsIdentifies and addresses improvements and efficienciesExcellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms, establish rapport and persuade othersBroad knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions, and strategic application to business needsTechnologies UsedGoogle Cloud Platform (GCP): Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Datastream, CloudSQL, PubSub, Functions, etc.DatabricksRelational databases: PostgresqlAI and ML: GCP Vertex, GCP Gemini AI, OpenAILooker and LookMLAbout HappyCo Founded in 2011, HappyCo () builds mobile and cloud solutions to enable real-time property data.
