Amazon is hiring Head of Category to improve the experience for our African customers.
**This is a senior-manager role, part of the core leadership team**
In this role, you will own the category P&L and will be responsible for leading and developing a high performing team, setting strategy to drive profitable growth, creating strong partnerships with selling partners, exploring new and emerging business models, running day-to-day operations, and delivering innovation to improve the customer experience.
Key job responsibilities
• Manage a full P&L, including planning, forecasting and driving growth for the category, possessing a complete understanding of internal and external variables that impact the business.
• Execute a strategic business development plan while working with key internal stakeholders (e.g., operations, marketing legal, tech).
• Develop and lead a multi-functional team of Vendor Managers and Program Manager
• Lead day-to-day operational aspects of the business, including gathering and addressing customer and vendor feedback, price management, and business improvement initiatives.
• Set goals and strategic direction for the business, ensuring alignment with broader business goals and vision.
• Represent Amazon when meeting with senior executive teams from top vendors and building long term strategic relationships.
• Generate and implement big ideas to drive business improvements, innovation, and scale within the category and across the Retail business.
• Lead cross functional collaboration on necessary systems and processes to support business needs, including retail systems, site merchandising and in-stock.
• Innovate and implement new customer and vendor programs.
• Collaborate on Marketing and Merchandising initiatives.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree.
• 10+ years sales and/or vendor management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• MBA or Master’s degree preferred
• Experience working with diverse geographical teams
• Experience leading cross-functional projects
• Track record of delivering results and an ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
• Strong business judgment with a track record of successful negotiations and overall relationship management.
• Proven analytical thinking, project management skills, and exceptional organizational skills are essential.
• Ability to think strategically and tactically, with attention to detail.
• Tenacity to develop ideas independently and thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment is essential for success.
