Head Gardener Job – East Lothian

Greycoat Lumley's client is seeking an experienced Head Gardener for their Private Estate in East Lothian.  East Lothian is a highly desirable location in which to live. It is within easy reach of Edinburgh, has many beaches and is a wonderful place to enjoy the outdoor life and  sense of local community.

The gardens consist of a total of 26 acres, which includes formal gardens, with  herbaceous borders, display glasshouse and production greenhouses, woodland, an arboretum and an orchard. In addition the walled garden has recently been acquired and presents the opportunity for rejuvenation, redesign and new planting .

There are long standing members of staff who work on the estate who enjoy being part of the team.  Applicants must have a positive and flexible mind-set with a good sense of humour.  A strong horticultural knowledge is required with a proper understanding of plant husbandry for trees, shrubs, hedging, herbaceous perennials and annuals  as well as lawns and plants under glass.

The ability to operate and maintain garden machinery is important, as is certification for chainsaw use and spraying equipment. A full, clean UK driving licence is also a requirement.

Days:  Monday to Friday - 40 hours a week

Accommodation:  2-bedroom cottage, next to the property grounds.  Logs are provided for the wood burning stove and the cottage is in great condition throughout. 

Council tax is paid by the Principals 

Salary:  £30,000 + GPA
