Masters Hopkins Athletics is multidivisional department with 22 programs competing at the NCAA Division III level and two programs (men’s and women’s lacrosse) competing at the NCAA Division I level (BIG 10 Conference). The department also hosts a variety of robust recreational activities such as club sports, intramurals, and fitness programming.

The Hopkins Athletics department seeks an innovative and forward-thinking Head Women’s Tennis Coach. The employee must operate within the framework of a best-in-class athletic department at Johns Hopkins University. The Head Women’s Tennis Coach works to support the mission and integrity of the Johns Hopkins University and the Athletics department. Demonstrating adherence to the department philosophy, facility and staff schedule, equipment and facility maintenance expectations and communication responsibilities is essential.  The strongest candidates will have a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment and a strong history of building and sustaining relationships with staff, student-athletes, and coaches.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

 

Development of the women’s tennis team; practice planning, training sessions, scheduling contests, monitoring budget, establishing effective communication with team and staff members. Recruitment of prospective student-athletes that meet the academic profile of the university and will contribute to the vibrancy of the campus community. Operation of the program within all rules/regulations/applicable policies of the NCAA, ITA, and the institution. Mentorship, supervision, and direction of assistant coaches, team members, and managers. Holistic development of student-athletes, to include facilitating connections to campus resources where appropriate that support their academic success, professional growth, and personal well-being. Collaboration with athletic development staff to establish fundraising priorities for the women’s tennis program, while implementing appropriate cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies in accordance with department and institutional standards. Proactive partnership with all administrative areas of the department: finance, HR, development and alumni relations, athletic training, strength & conditioning, athletic communications, facilities, event management, equipment, and compliance. Exhibition of leadership, sportsmanship, and professional conduct at all times. Cultivation of a fair, objective, and supportive relationship with all team members. Promotion of a safe and inclusive team environment for all members. Oversight and control of all program equipment and uniforms. Other responsibilities/duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree Three to five years collegiate varsity coaching and recruiting experience Current and valid CPR/AED certifications Valid driver’s license required, clear of major violations. A record of outstanding interpersonal, relationship building and communication skills.

 

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

Master’s Degree preferred. Five years collegiate varsity coaching experience and three years collegiate varsity head coaching experience preferred

 

Key Relationships:

The Head Women’s Tennis Coach is directly supervised by the Associate AD/SWA

Physical Effort/Environment:

General office, athletic facility, and campus environment.  Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Walking, standing, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 50 pounds in coaching and training situations is required. Computer usage involving repetitive and/wrist motion is required. The position will be a full-time, twelve-month appointment, with frequent evening and weekend work required throughout the year with those dates determined by a supervisor.
