+ High school diploma or GED .
+ EPA Section 608 certification.
+ Minimum of two years supervising full-time staff, including leading MEP trades teams.
+ Minimum of two years performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing air conditioning and heating systems in either commercial or residential units.
+ Understanding and experience of mechanical HVAC concepts, schematics, and blueprints.
+ Experience in troubleshooting and repairing heat pumps, DX units, auxiliary electric heat elements, and pneumatic/electric controls in a commercial or commercial setting.
+ Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in managing operations and personnel.
+ Effective communicator with the ability to convey technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
+ A minimum of 4 years of experience as an HVAC /R mechanic, with a stable work history and demonstrated ability to lead a team of MEP tradespersons, is required.
+ Formal training and certification, such as North American Technician Excellence ( NATE ) or State of Texas Certified Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician.
+ Experience in completing order requests for material, supplies, and equipment while maintaining inventory for the HVAC maintenance shop.
+ Understanding using personal computers for data entry, report writing, e-mail, etc.
Job Description
The Head AC Mechanic has a supervisory role and is responsible for providing leadership within the HVAC shop. This position oversees and assigns work orders, ensuring efficient maintenance and repair of Housing and Residential Life facilities. In addition to managing the team, the Head AC Mechanic performs preventative and routine maintenance on HVAC systems, inspects equipment to ensure proper heating and cooling operation, and repairs defective units in university housing buildings.
Job Duties
Maintenance and Repair
+ Develop and execute a preventative maintenance schedule.
+ Install replacement components for chilled water and direct expansion environmental control systems, including coils, motors, electronics, compressors, thermostats, humidistats, fans, and commercial refrigeration equipment.
+ Support zone maintenance shops and other departments in the repair of campus facilities, including after-hours emergency response.
+ To diagnose and resolve issues, utilize measuring instruments such as multimeters, refrigeration gauges, and thermo-hygrometers.
+ Apply principles of thermodynamics and physics to troubleshoot and repair environmental control systems.
+ Treat hydronic system loops to maintain water quality.
+ Read and interpret drawings, technical manuals, and instructions.
Supervision and Administration
+ Supervise and lead AC Mechanic II staff by assigning work orders, providing training, and addressing personnel issues.
+ Maintain records and prepare reports on repairs and services in compliance with university and regulatory requirements.
+ Complete paperwork accurately and on time, ensuring up-to-date documentation of all
+ Attend management-directed meetings and training.
Other Responsibilities
+ Participate in the On-Call Program to address campus needs outside regular hours.
+ Accomplish other duties as assigned.
