Hazardous Building Materials Project Manager

Role description:

Arcadis Canada is seeking a Hazardous Building Materials Project Manager (PM) to join our team in Calgary, Alberta. A dual role will be considered to also provide PM duties with the Environmental Restoration team. The successful candidate will co-ordinate and execute activities pertaining to the design, implementation and management of hazardous building materials assessments and abatement projects, mould and indoor air quality investigations and environmental site assessments, remediation programs. As a Project Manager, you will be expected to aid Senior Project Managers on small, large and complex projects including, development and management of scope, schedule, budget, technical resources, health and safety and support for field staff.  The role will also include a field component, and applicants can expect to be at least 50/50 field/office based, with some out-of-town travel required. 

Field work would include conducting hazardous building materials assessments (asbestos, lead, mercury, PCBs etc.), mould and indoor air quality investigations, oversight of abatement and remediation activities, collection of air samples for asbestos, lead, and mould and practical training of junior field staff. Office duties will include, developing specifications, technical reports, asbestos management plans. Practical experience of five (5) years or more is required.

The role has the potential to include working with our Environmental Restoration team. Depending on the successful candidate’s experience, the role could include coordination of activities pertaining to the execution of environmental projects including data gap reviews, phase I and II environmental site assessments, and remediation projects. This role includes coordinating and conducting site visits and inspections, monitoring and supervising drilling and/or remediation activities, preparing field notes, collecting soil and groundwater samples, and writing environmental reports.  

Role accountabilities:

The applicant will be expected to be understand and be responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing all aspects of a project. They collaborate with a team to ensure that the project is completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards. The applicant responsibilities will include budget management, quality control, project scope, resource management, client, and stakeholder management. There will be opportunity for business development to expand the Arcadis brand and hazmat services in Alberta. 

The applicant will be expected to be able to perform hazardous building material assessments (asbestos, lead, mould, etc.); manage abatement projects (asbestos, lead, mould, etc.), perform mould investigations and basic indoor air quality assessments; manage field notes; prepare technical reports; develop an understanding of the services delivered by Arcadis and of client businesses to enable personal performance improvement and career development.

The applicant should have a good knowledge of relevant provincial, national standards and codes of practice.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

Technical Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Environmental Science, Building Sciences, Engineering, Architecture, Occupational Health and Safety 5+ years practical experience on conducting hazardous building material surveys, with experience in Alberta preferred. Arcadis will provide training to build skill sets with career progression Business development experience is an asset Able and willing to travel out of town Physical requirement: ability to lift 20 pounds in weight Valid Driver’s License

Key Skills:

The applicant should have good interpersonal and communication skills; proficiency in relevant desktop applications; a strong attention to detail and accuracy; understanding of data management process; data gathering and analysis skills and basic management and calibration of equipment.
