Group Leader (LSNC Youth Programs) Job Details Job Location Lincoln Square - New York, NY Position Type Part Time Salary Range $16.50 - $16.50 Hourly Description Organization Overview: The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. We are two of New York City’s leading human services organizations meeting the needs of children, youth and families, homeless individuals, and older adults through-out Manhattan and New York City. The Isaacs Center focuses primarily on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers. We operate at community centers located in the neighborhoods of East Harlem and Yorkville, and seek to deliver programs that are impactful, innovative, and intergenerational. Program Description:Goddard Riverside’s Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center (LSNC), a community center located in the Amsterdam Houses and Amsterdam Addition on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, has been offering programs for children and their families for over 65 years. Currently, LSNC operates an After School Program and Summer Camp for children ages 5 through 12 offering academic support, cultural enrichment, and physical fitness programs. Position Summary:Group Leaders are assigned to work with a group of children, broken down by age, on various tasks including homework help, STEM, literacy, Art and social-emotional competencies. Group Leaders report to the LSNC Youth Programs Assistant Director. Together, our staff works to provide a positive and creative learning environment for the social and intellectual development of all participants. After School Program Position Start Date: Immediate Position End Date: June 20th, 2025 Potential to be hired for Summer Camp 2025, pending interest & performance evaluation. Schedule:Monday-Friday After School - 2pm – 6pm; Additional hours for meetings and trainings & some Full Days & Half Days Summer Day Camp - 8am – 5:45pm (7 Hour Shifts) Hourly Rate:$16.50/hr Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties Group Leader responsibilities include, but are not limited to: + Maintaining sound supervision and ensuring the safety of program participants, including school pick-up. + Establishing and cultivating positive relationships with youth and their families. + Supervising and supporting participants with Homework Help Monday - Thursday. + Maintaining positive relationships with partner programs. + Reporting, in writing and verbally, all illnesses/injuries and behavioral incidents of participants. + Attending and participating in weekly staff meetings, special events, and required OCFS training as scheduled. + Providing clear direction to work study students, interns, classroom volunteers and other group leaders. + Establishing and maintaining a nurturing learning environment with clear, age-appropriate expectations and rules. Qualifications/Educational Requirements + Previous experience working with school aged children in urban school and/or community- based settings. + High School Diploma/GED; some college preferred + Must be able to pass a Criminal Background Check (Fingerprinting), a Child Abuse and Maltreatment Check (SCR), a Staff Exclusion List Check (SEL), and be physically able to work with children (via a doctor's signed consent). + Must be available to work from 2:00PM to 6:00 PM Monday – Friday during the school year, 8am – 5:45pm during the summer months and be available for staff meetings and required professional development. + Must be able to work collaboratively. + Must have a sense of humor and a passion for youth development. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities + Creating and implementing lesson plans for group participation. + Completion of daily paperwork for tracking and data collection (Pick Up Sheets, Attendance, Meal Counts, Incentive Tracker, etc.) Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have: + Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Word & Excel + Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook (Email) + Basic Internet Skills Physical Requirements + Some bending, kneeling and lifting + Must provide doctor’s consent that you are physically able to work with children Work Environment + Classroom + Outdoor (For Pick-Ups and Field Trips) We are committed to building an inclusive workplace community grounded in respect for differences.
