Department Summary: MITRE is dedicated to solving problems that provide safety, security, and economic prosperity for all individuals and American businesses. MITRE is seeking a Group Leader (GL) to lead a team within the Oceans and Atmosphere Department of the Commerce Division, within the Center for Enterprise Modernization FFRDC. Job Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be a key member of the P832 management team, supporting the Department Head with hiring, staffing, career development and coaching, performance management, and technical reviews. The GL is a first-line supervisor focused on developing and growing MITRE’s talent. The GL will mentor 8-10 staff members to ensure their development and quality delivery to outcomes. The GL duties are generally anticipated to comprise a level of effort of approximately 10%. GLs spend the remained of their time as a team member or leader on project related activities. Roles and Responsibilities: + Be a key member of the P832 management team, contributing to the strategic direction and management of the Oceans and Atmosphere Department within the Commerce division. + Serve as the direct supervisor for assigned staff. Coach, mentor and guide staff, conduct ongoing CLEAR conversations, recommend training and development + Communicate on a regular basis with work leaders on group member performance to provide constructive feedback and support career development. Leverage these work leader relationships to match projects with staff competencies and identify stretch assignments to develop new skills + Assist or lead in recruitment and securing staff for projects and task orders with sponsors + Assist the P832 Department Manager with work-shaping, product-shaping, and outcome-shaping + Work with the P832 Department Manager and other group leads to define department capabilities + Work with other MITRE Labs and other program departments to bring integrated solutions to sponsor problems Basic Qualifications: + Requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience. + Leadership and interpersonal capabilities to establish and foster relationships within and across the organization + Demonstrated ability to provide career guidance and coaching to department members + Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic hiring plans + Experience with team management in a technical environment + Affinity for personnel leadership/management + Excellent interpersonal skills – discretion, diplomacy, and tact + Demonstrated ability to impact technical projects and lead them to successful transition + Demonstrated ability in MITRE capability development and documentation. + Strong written and oral communication skills + Passion for excellence and demonstrated ability to lead and contribute to the development of high-quality deliverable + This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site Preferred Qualifications: + Prior experience as a Group Leader and/or managing staff + Demonstrated experience working with NOAA or NASA, or in fields related to their missions, including but not limited to weather, climate, oceanography, space, satellite and radar engineering, and aerospace engineering + Experience working with high-level sponsor executives + Possession of an advanced degree in a relevant field + Experience managing multiple projects or programs concurrently + Experience working with and leading diverse teams (e.g. scientists, engineers, policy makers) and fostering collaboration between different disciplines This requisition requires the candidate to have a minimum of the following clearance(s): None This requisition requires the hired candidate to have or obtain, within one year from the date of hire, the following clearance(s): None Salary compensation range and midpoint: $151,500 - $189,500 - $227,500 Annual Work Location Type: Hybrid MITRE is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
