Group Fitness Instructor (Contractual)

The Office of Academic Affairs, URecFit and Wellness has an opportunity for a part time, contractual Group Fitness Instructor (Contingent Category I Contractual Employment) in the SMC Campus Center. URecFit and Wellness is committed to enriching the academic experience as well as encouraging the physical, mindful, cultural, spiritual, emotional, and social development of the UMB community. Reporting to the Senior Assistant Director and Coordinator for Fitness, the Group Fitness Instructor provides safe and effective exercise classes for groups at various fitness levels at URecFit.

UMB is a Maryland state university. Applicants are expected to reside in or be able to relocate to the State of Maryland. Consideration may also be given to residents of the District of Columbia, Delaware, Virginia, or West Virginia. This residency requirement also applies to those performing telework.

This position is a non-benefited, Contingent Category I Contractual position; Mostly weekday with evening and weekend work required

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Develop safe and effective exercise classes for groups in various fitness levels.Plan routines, select music, and choose appropriate movements for various muscles.Offer useful, tactful, and safe advice to individuals regarding their class participation and use of equipment.Provide safe and effective instruction of equipment used during class.Conduct consultations as needed and assess the training need-basis of each participant.Maintain fitness equipment as needed and assess the training need of each participantAttend all in service trainings and meetingsSeek client feedback continuously.Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's in related field, such as Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, Sports Management, Exercise Science, etc.

Experience: Conducted a minimum of fifty (50) hours of fitness classes in specialized program.

Licensure/Certification: Current ACE, ACSM, AFAA, CSCS, NASM, or comparable Group exercise certification. Training and appropriate certification related to CPR and AED required after date of hire.

Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Knowledge of safe exercise technique and group exercise principles.

Ability to operate and troubleshoot audio equipment.

Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork

CPR AED certified or willingness to obtain.

Hiring Range: Commensurate with experience and certification

Hourly target range for this position is $25.39
