Grounds and Operations Manager

Overview:

The Capital Planning and Facilities Management department seeks a grounds and operations manager to coordinate contract grounds services, snow and ice removal, maintain general grounds and administer contracts for trade services such as paving, line marking and storm water management. The successful candidate will supervise contractors and vendors and ensure upkeep of campus grounds, parking areas, and all outdoor venues to present an attractive appearance to visitors, potential students, students, faculty, and staff. The grounds and operations manager is primarily responsible for safety, productivity, training, quality, scheduling, inventory, contracting, budget management and customer service as it relates to the outdoor grounds and venues at Salem State University. This includes inspection and performance of related work as required. This role is an on-campus, in-person position with daily responsibilities on campus. The grounds and operations manager is an essential position and must be available in emergency, after-hour, and recall situations, and will require exposure to extreme weather conditions; proper notification will be given.

Required Qualifications:

Three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in grounds maintenance and operationsA minimum of one year in a supervisory capacityKnowledge of the tools, materials, methods and standard practices used in the maintenance of campus groundsKnowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions in grounds maintenance and associated equipmentKnowledge of plantings, grasses, trees and shrubs and the application of fertilizers and other materials to promote healthy and sustainable growth

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to instruct and direct the work of maintainers, contractors, vendors and consultantsKnowledge of and ability to use the tools (including power tools), materials, methods and standard practices used in the maintenance of campus grounds and landscaping workPesticide applicators licenseExperience maintaining irrigation systemsAbility to understand, explain, and apply the provisions of the laws, rules, regulations, procedures and guidelinesAbility to maintain harmonious working relationships with othersAbility to maintain accurate records
