**Grid Modernization Consultant - Smart Grid Operations Lead** Location **Nationwide** Job Code **17783** \# of openings **1** Apply Now (https://phh.tbe.taleo.net/phh04/ats/careers/v2/applyRequisition?org=POWERENGINEERS&cws=44&rid=17783) **Grid Modernization Consultant – Smart Grid Operations Lead** POWER’s Digital Utility Business Unit is seeking a Grid Modernization Consultant - Smart Grid Operations Lead to provide expertise in the development, configuration, implementation, and support of Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS), Outage Management Systems (OMS), Advanced Applications, User Interface (UI), and Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS) and some other smart grid solutions. This position is part of the Advanced Utility Solutions professional services division, focusing on system architecture, software implementation, and technology consulting. The role reports to the Smart Grid Lead and works directly with utility clients to design and deploy scalable, secure, and high-performance technology solutions. We are looking for a customer-focused technical leader with expertise in IT/OT convergence, utility applications, and enterprise integration to support utilities in enhancing operational efficiency, outage management, DER integration, and user experience. The selected individual may be able to work remotely or out of one of our many office locations. **Summary of Roles and Responsibilities** : The Grid Modernization Consultant – Smart Grid Operations Lead will have the following roles and responsibilities: Outage Management Systems (OMS): + Lead the development, configuration, and implementation of OMS solutions to ensure effective outage response and restoration. + Analyze outage data, identify system issues, and develop strategies to improve OMS functionality. + Conduct functional gap analysis between existing and new OMS implementations. + Define and document OMS configuration workbooks, ensuring system behavior aligns with utility-specific needs. + Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize OMS integration with GIS, SCADA, and other utility applications. + Manage vendor relationships, ensuring timely resolution of system challenges and upgrades. Advanced Applications (ADMS): + Provide expertise in Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) applications, including Power Flow, State Estimation, Short-Circuit Analysis, Volt/VAR Optimization (VVO), and Fault Location, Isolation & Service Restoration (FLISR). + Analyze grid scenarios and network performance, ensuring seamless integration of advanced applications with ADMS. + Define and validate system use cases, business processes, and system design for advanced applications. + Conduct testing and verification of advanced application functionalities and network model tuning. + Work closely with vendors and utility stakeholders to refine system behavior and ensure operational efficiency. User Interface (UI) Design & Optimization: + Define symbology and visualization requirements for OMS, ADMS, and DERMS, ensuring clear and intuitive network representation. + Develop and refine static and dynamic symbology, user interface configurations, and role-based visualizations. + Conduct usability assessments and user research to improve system navigation and operational workflows. + Ensure compliance with accessibility standards and usability best practices in UI design. + Collaborate with ADMS engineers, system operators, and developers to optimize UI layouts, ensuring effective data presentation. Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS): + Lead DERMS strategy, implementation, and integration with ADMS, SCADA, and other IT/OT systems. + ·Provide guidance on DER modeling, forecasting, and real-time control of distributed energy resources (DERs), including solar, wind, battery storage, and EVs. + Define DERMS use cases and workflows, ensuring alignment with regulatory, market, and operational requirements. + Conduct DER impact assessments, analyzing grid reliability, load balancing, and renewable energy optimization. + Support the development of DERMS roadmaps, vendor selection, and system deployment strategies. General Responsibilities: + Serve as a trusted advisor to utility clients, providing expertise in IT/OT systems and grid modernization strategies. + Manage project timelines, resources, and stakeholder expectations across multiple workstreams. + Develop and maintain technical documentation, training materials, and best practice guides. + Stay up to date with emerging trends, technologies, and regulations impacting OMS, ADMS, DERMS, and UI development. + Participate in business development activities as needed. + Participate in strategic business unit initiatives and help to improve business unit processes, procedures, templates, and guidelines. + Travel up to 20% to client sites for assessments, system implementations, and stakeholder meetings. **Required Education/Experience:** + Bachelor’s Degree: Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. + 10+ years of experience in Smart Grid operations, IT/OT integration, or utility technology consulting. + 7+ years of experience working with OMS, ADMS, DERMS, and UI systems, supporting configuration, implementation, and optimization. + Expertise in OMS functionalities, including outage detection, fault isolation, crew dispatching, and restoration strategies. + Strong knowledge of ADMS advanced applications, such as FLISR, VVO, DERMS, and grid optimization tools. + Hands-on experience with utility system integration, including GIS, SCADA, CIS, and Meter Data Management Systems (MDMS). + Proficiency in IT/OT protocols, including DNP3, IEC 61850, MQTT, and OPC-UA. + Experience in UI/UX design principles, including symbology design, role-based configurations, and network visualization. + Understanding of DER technologies and control strategies, including aggregators, microgrid controllers, and demand response programs. + Familiarity with cybersecurity and regulatory compliance standards, such as NERC CIP, IEC 62443, and Zero Trust security models. + Requires excellent communication and organizational skills. + Requires excellent problem-solving skills. + Requires strong time management skills including the ability to multi-task on various projects and priorities under fixed schedules. **Desired Education/Experience:** + Master’s Degree: Power Systems, Information Systems, or Business Administration with a focus on technology and digital transformation. + Relevant Certifications: + NERC Certified + Project Management Professional (PMP) + Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) + TOGAF (Enterprise Architecture) + ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Certification + AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Solution Architect Certification + PMI-ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner) + Proven leadership experience managing large-scale projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and engaging with utility stakeholders. Salary DOE: The pay range for this position is $140K-$150K per year; however, base pay may be higher or lower depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
