The University of Maryland Marlene Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center (UMGCCC) requires a detail oriented, experienced scientific Grant Writer/Editor to join their team. This is a fully remote, non-benefited contractual position. The selected candidate will be responsible for researching and writing grant proposals to secure funding from foundations, corporations, and government agencies. This position will support existing and planned program activities as well as lead the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies. This is a new role and will be critical in helping UMGCCC expand its research and academic mission. Significant effort will be devoted to writing and editing large, multi-investigator, multi-site NIH applications.

PRIMARY DUTIES
• Researches and identifies grant opportunities that align with the UMGCCC’s mission and funding priorities. Develop and write compelling grant proposals, including letters of inquiry, full proposals, and reports.
• Tailors proposals to meet the specific requirements of each funder, ensuring that all submissions are accurate, complete, and submitted on time. Collaborates with program staff to gather the necessary information and data to support grant applications.
• Maintains a calendar of grant deadlines, including submissions, reports, and renewals, and will have responsibility for the preparation of interim and final reports for funders, documenting the outcomes and impact of funded projects. Gathers, writes, and organizes information for newsletters and other research and public information materials, including University website.
• Performs internal reviews of institutional needs and assess the feasibility of obtaining external funding for project and program proposals.
• Investigates local, state, federal, private, and corporate sources of funds by reviewing materials, listservs, meetings on and off campus, telephone contacts, and correspondence.
• Maintains existing grant management system for funded grants that includes report due dates, budget adherence, and any other grant requirements.
• Develops and maintains a library of information on funding sources, grant writing, and community and state data relevant to college programs and services.
• Works closely with various offices across campus to identify funding opportunities that align with the strategic directions of the school or department.
• Collaborates with university personnel to gather input for all projects and comply with requests from personnel for data and other information.
• Coordinates, develops, and processes grant applications from conceptual to submission stage while working closely with faculty and staff throughout all phases.
• Manages multiple projects and priorities including searching for funding sources, writing proposals, managing existing grants, reporting to stakeholders, and working on special projects.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field such as English, communications, or journalism.
Experience: Three (3) years of grant writing experience. Experience in municipal, state, federal, higher education, and/or corporate grants and contract preparation preferred. Experience should include past successes with NIH applications. Scientific writing experience including contributions to funded grant applications, articles published in scientific journals and formal papers preferred.
Other: Financial disclosure reporting required by State of Maryland Ethics Committee.

Hiring Range: $69,000 - $73,000, commensurate with education and experience.
