Position Summary:
Under supervision of RN preceptor completes patient care assignments within a reasonable length of time, meeting the obvious needs of the patient.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Under supervision of RN preceptor:
1. Completes patient care assignments within a reasonable length of time, meeting the obvious needs of the patient.
2. Contributes to the development of patient problem list using the nursing process:
A. achieve established nursing care goals and/or
B. prevent further pathophysiology and/or
C. correct pathophysiology and/or
D. maintain function.
3. Identifies patient’s ongoing and discharge teaching needs.
4. Demonstrates competency and knowledge in performing basic skills.
5. Responds to real or simulated emergency and disaster situations according to established procedure.
6. Maintains a safe patient care environment.
7. Demonstrates competency in utilization of equipment required for patient care.
8. Assesses patient status on admission and continuously thereafter.
9. Under supervision, establishes priority order for patient care activities and determines appropriate interventions to obtain timely results based on acuity of patient needs, scientific principles and hospital policy/procedure.
10. In response to changes in patient’s physical or behavioral status, confers with appropriate resources and utilizes scientific knowledge to initiate appropriate corrective action.
11. Exhibits professional behavior when interacting with patients, families, the community, and other members of the health care team.
12. Documents nursing care consistently in accordance with charting guidelines and communicates patient needs to appropriate resource persons, e.g. hospital and community resources.
13. Respects patient rights by consistently acting as a patient advocate, providing privacy and maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
14. Actively cooperates with ancillary departments.
15. Demonstrates competency and knowledge in performing basic and specific skills and the utilization of equipment required for patient care. (See unit specific competencies)
Qualifications:
Required:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing BLS issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross Certification Will be required to take the State of Michigan Licensure Examination within 60 days of your hire or transfer date.Preferred:
