What does a Civil Engineer in Transport do?
Undertake site inspections and gathers base information on road environment, traffic and road safety observation, parking inventories and facilities etc. Plan, supervise and conduct traffic and parking surveys. Analyse traffic and parking data using Excel (demand forecasts) and SIDRA modelling. Assess and provide solutions-focused design advice for transport infrastructure and operations, including pedestrian pathways, cycling and end-of-trip facilities, car parking layouts, etc. Prepare draft reports and other correspondence as directed in support of the project RPEQ. Obtain and assess crash data to identify road safety concerns and possible treatments. Attend client meetings (where appropriate) in support of the project RPEQ. May involve some work after hours, e.g. to attend industry activities, coordinate or undertake transport network operation observations, evening site inspections, etc.
