Position Information Position Information Position Availability: Position Title: Graduate Assistant Specialist: Commencement Communications Specialists Requisition Number: 0406073530 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: Stdnt Srvcs/Enrollment Ops Responsibilities: The Office of Strategy and Operations at The New School is seeking a Part-Time Graduate Student Assistant Specialist to manage communications for graduating students in preparation for University Commencement.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives, the Communications Specialist must be able to take initiative, work independently and collaboratively, use good judgment, possess a strong work ethic, and have excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities: Manage the overall content strategy for graduating New School students Gather, organize, and write content for the weekly graduation newsletter. Respond to timely inquiries in the commencement@newschool.edu inbox and connect senders with relevant contacts at the university. Provide event support during Family Weekend (October), Countdown to Commencement events (spring semester) and University Commencement (May) for up to 10 hours per week.
Work Mode:Hybrid/Split – Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely.
Salary Range:Pay rate: $21/hour for up to 10 hours per week.

Writing Prompt: In this role, you will be asked to draft content for weekly newsletters for graduating students. Please create a draft newsletter encouraging students to register to participate in University Commencement. Feel free to make-up details to information you don’t know–we will be looking at the spirit of the content rather than the accuracy. The post should be no longer than 300 words (think 2-3 brief paragraphs).
Minimum Qualifications: Must be a current full-time New School graduate student Progress toward a Master’s degree in media, communications, writing, or relevant work experience Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both in writing and verbally Proven proficiency in upholding social justice principles in the delivery of communications to a diverse audience Proven ability to manage multiple projects and strategically drive initiatives forward Excellent writing skills; experienced in copy/editing, applying feedback, and providing revisions and iterations in a timely manner Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office applications. Can work with The New School’s branding and style guides to create a suite of coherent collateral across Student Success Experience with email management systems (ex: Constant Contact or Mailchimp) a plus
