JITS manages the IT systems, services, and interfaces to support approximately 900 DOJ employees, 325 statewide county motor vehicle system users, and over 3,000 Criminal Justice Information Network (CJIN) users across the state. The work of JITS directly supports the citizens of Montana and the DOJ staff who are involved in legal cases involving the State and its people to include missing persons, victim services, children’s justice, consumer protection, criminal investigations, highway safety, motor vehicle operations, gambling control, criminal history information, and forensic laboratory services. Our mission to enhance operations and efficiency with IT in the pursuit of the DOJ mission is challenging, exciting, and rewarding, both professionally and personally. *Job Overview:* This entry-level GIS position involves basic data development activities under direct supervision, including tasks in geographic information systems to capture, manipulate, analyze, maintain, and present geospatial and related data. An employee in this job utilizes geospatial technology to gather, process, verify, and store data to produce maps and other visual displays of data. Work involves digitizing and geocoding spatial data from a variety of sources for input into a geodatabase and converting raw data into a usable geospatial format. Work includes editing, analyzing, merging, and updating data sets; assigning appropriate attributes to data; creating metadata describing the data content, source, quality, and condition; and providing technical guidance and support to end users including installing, maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting GIS applications. Work will include creating and maintaining a variety of work products including digital and paper maps, dashboards, GIS enabled web site or portal, data collection apps or tools, and geospatial data analysis and rendering tools. *Minimum Qualifications:* * **Associate degree in Information Technology or a related field. * Two years of experience maintaining GIS systems. * Other combinations of education, certification, or experience may be substituted. *Preferred Qualifications:* * Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in related field or discipline. * 1 year of actual GIS experience. * Software experience includes ESRI GIS core products (ArcGIS Pro) and preferably experience with ArcGIS Online, AGOL Dashboards, Experience Builder, and various ArcGIS Extensions. Experience using excel or similar spreadsheet programs. * Desirable software experience includes business intelligence and dashboard development environments, data architecture (SQL Server, etc.), and some exposure to programming.
