We have an exciting opportunity for a Geology Intern to join the team

This is a temporary role not to exceed 12 weeks.

The Exploration Science team seeks a Geology Intern to identify, characterize, and organize rock sample collection at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. This position is only offered in person and onsite.
 
Responsibilities\:

Provide basic petrologic characterization, inventory and cataloging of geology samples as part of the Field Equipment for Exploration Training (FEET) collection. Assist users and NASA Artemis Training and Strategic Integration Lead with selection and preparation of rock collections for training and outreach. Work both independently and as a part of the Exploration Science team. Work with and classify rock and sediment samples for accurate record keeping Collaborate with aerospace professionals and other interns in lab spaces such as\: Field Equipment for Exploration Training (FEET) Lab, Advanced Concepts for Exploration (ACE) Lab, Simulant Development Lab (SDL), etc.​​​ *

Requisition Qualifications\:

Currently enrolled at an accredited university. Completed at least 45 credit hours. Minimum of 2.8 GPA. Pursuing a BS/MS in Geology or a closely related field​

Requisition Preferences\:

Completed coursework on mineralogy, petrography, igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentology, field geology. Experience working with and/or studying rock samples. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Experience working in a lab following safety procedures. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.​

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

Other Essential Functions

Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
