Responsibilities Job Description Job Summary: The Genetics Counselor position is responsible for providing genetics counseling services to patients and families of Fairview. Job Expectations: Coordinate patient activities for genetics department/clinics. Ensure all pertinent preliminary data has been received. Communicate data to appropriate staff. Triage patients, both referrals and follow-ups into appropriate clinics and services. Counsel patients and families seen at clinics. Obtain medical and family histories. Interpret genetic diagnosis. Assess and communicate the genetic and medical risks. Provide continuous supportive counseling services Provide genetic counseling service for families for whom molecular methods of diagnosis can offer carrier detection and prenatal diagnosis. Develop and provide educational services to health professionals and community groups. Develop educational materials regarding genetic disease for health professionals and the lay public. Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
