Primary Function

To set up dies and automation equipment for operations, such as: punching, stamping, drawing, and forming in a variety of presses

General Quality Responsibilities

All employees are responsible for the quality of their work. If quality standards or expectations cannot be met, the employee responsible for the work is required to notify the supervisor of the area immediately.

Tools & Equipment

Presses, micrometers, calipers, overhead cranes/hoists, computers, gauges, wrenches, rules, powered die truck, powered lift truck, radio, and other miscellaneous hand tools.

Training/Licensing Requirements

P.V.O. license, Lock-out Tag-out Training, Protecting Your Safety & Health, Developing Troubleshooting Skills, Reading Blueprints, Making Measurements, Understanding Basic Mechanics. Intro to OPEX, Understanding MSEs.

Material

Control plans, drawings, blueprints, dies, presses, etc.

Essential Functions Requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide decimals and fractions; use simple adjustable measuring devices; read simple drawings; interpret production schedules and inspection reports.Six months up to and including 2 years.Requires the ability to plan and perform work when the details are not spelled out, but which fall within recognized methods. Use above average amount of judgment and initiative.Requires continuous lifting of from 1-5 lbs., or frequent lifting of from 5-35 lbs., or occasional lifting of from 35-60 lbs.Requires continual attention of a normal degree, or concentrated attention for brief periods.Probable damage would exceed $2000, but seldom over $5000Requires extreme care at least 25% of the work day to prevent major injuries to others such as loss of body members, partial loss of eyesight, etc...Requires intermittent, but regular, instruction of other people, or assigning and coordinating their work.Somewhat disagreeable working conditions. Usually not more than one objectionable element present at a time.Accident hazard is high, with exposure at least 25% of the work day to partial disability accidents such as loss of hand, arm, or leg, partial loss of sight, etc...Working Procedure Works from blueprints, process sheets, drawings, verbal and written instructions from supervisor and printed schedules.Makes die and automation set-ups on all presses.Works with operator regarding proper operation of the job. If requested, diesetter helps troubleshoot various problems with dimensions, steel quality, lubrication, etc.Reports to departmental supervisor any problems encountered in dies, machinery, material, quality, etc.Operates equipment to transport dies from storage to press and vice-versa.Responsible for removal of all tools, shims, bolts, holding lugs, etc., remaining after completion of set-up.Remove gall marks and slivers in dies.Assist in changing punches, buttons or sections that can be changed in the press.Uses all designated safety equipment, observes all safety rules, and follows recognized rules of safe practice.Maintains good housekeeping, keeps area and equipment clean.Performs duties of a similar or lesser skill to facilitate the flow of work in the department.The above statements reflect the general details considered necessary to describe the principle functions of the job identified and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the job.Prestage dies, chutes, totes, etc. to expedite changeovers.Log die change data as required.
