The University of Virginia's Capitol Construction and Renovations (CCR) team, within Facilities Management (FM) has an exciting opportunity for a General Services Technician. CCR supports FM’s goal of providing consistent, cost-effective, and reliable electrical construction and maintenance to the University community.
Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure and grounds, as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
Position Summary:
General Services Technicians perform maintenance, care, and modification of University buildings and grounds. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, moving, installing, demolition, event setup, basic cleaning or clearing, and signage. They may have experience with several unlicensed and unspecialized crafts. They may work independently or as a team, with assigned work but limited supervision.
Duties Include:
Perform minor maintenance work using hand and power tools.
Perform minor cosmetic repairs, such as painting walls and maintaining woodwork.
Operate small hand and power tools, as well as possibly use larger equipment such as tractors, mowers, saws, grass trimmers, snow and leaf blowers, sprayers, and paint machines.
Conduct work in adherence with applicable traffic laws, department policies, and operator instructions, where applicable. Wear appropriate clothing and protection, and complete work in compliance with safety standards and federal, state, and local regulations.
Perform delivery services by identifying supplies, materials, and equipment from invoices or order forms. Load items on delivery vehicles, safeguard items during transit, deliver items, and obtain the appropriate signature for the receipt of the delivered items.
Perform custodial services in areas such as buildings, classrooms, offices, laboratories, and restrooms, including their furnishings.
Move furniture regarding event setup or remodeling and renovations.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent
At least one year of relevant work experience
For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks prior to their start date.
Compensation:
Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.00 - $20.00 ($33,280 - $41,600 per year). This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:
Employee will be required to crawl, kneel, squat, bend and twist in order to perform their work. Employee must travel around job sites. Employee will work with materials of different weights and perform repetitive motions.
