Alamo Group Inc. is currently accepting applications to fill the position of General Manager at Royal Truck & Equipment, a leading manufacturer of truck mounted highway attenuator trucks, other specialty trucks, and equipment for highway infrastructure and traffic control. The Royal Truck & Equipment facility is located in Shoemakersville, PA.
The General Manager directs, plans, controls, and coordinates the activities of Royal Truck & Equipment (an Alamo Group company) to achieve established financial goals, operational objectives, and long-term organizational development. The General Manager provides P&L leadership, long-term direction and day-to-day management for the business, which includes coaching the management team to ensure the following functions operate as one complete business unit: Sales & Marketing, Operations, Customer Service, Quality Assurance, Engineering/R&D, Supply Chain, HR, Safety, Finance, and Administration.
The General Manager for Royal Truck & Equipment will:
Identify, develop, and execute business strategies and operational tactics for the business to achieve sustainable, profitable growth aligned to targets established by the Group VP, Operating Division EVP, and other corporate executives and officers. Support the growth and objectives of the business by ensuring well developed options are investigated, and recommendations for funding deliver the best return on net assets and operating income improvement. Ensure alignment with the objectives of the Alamo Group Inc. corporate leadership team under the administrative direction of the EVP for the operating division and the GVP for the group. Develop and execute the annual operating budget for Royal Truck and participate in Alamo Group’s annual budget planning processes. Develop and monitor appropriate Key Performance Indicators to ensure continuous operational improvement of Royal Truck. Lead the development of a “safety first culture” within Royal Truck and oversee compliance with all applicable Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations. Plan capital expenditures and asset redeployment activities of the business and prepare CAPEX applications for corporate approval, including sufficient technical documentation, description of alternatives considered, competitive bids, plans/drawings, as well as calculating the financial impact of the investment on short and long-term financial results. Plan, direct, monitor, and forecast Royal Truck's budget and ensure attainment of performance in relation to quarterly and annual growth and profit goals. Prepare management reports and participate in Royal Truck performance reviews as and when directed by the Group VP and Division EVP. Promote communication and collaboration within Royal Truck and between Alamo Group and other member companies. Oversee and adjust Royal Truck’s processes and operations as necessary to achieve expected performance and ensure compliance to, and efficient, effective execution of corporate policies and procedures. Select, evaluate, coach, and mentor members of the Royal Truck management team. Ensure succession planning for key positions is in place, regularly updated, and supported by appropriate training and development plans. Ensure clearly defined business processes exist and that they are adequately resourced with well-defined roles and appropriate compensation. Represent Royal Truck to outside agencies, which may include the media in a manner that reflects positively on the Company and on Alamo Group. At all times, act in a manner consistent with the Alamo Group Code of Conduct and ensure that other Royal Truck managers and employees do so as well. Ensure all expenditures, both for capital investment and ordinary expense, are properly documented with necessary approvals per corporate guidelines and managed appropriately. Be responsible for ensuring that all company property, records, and management assets under the control of this position are properly maintained and adequately secured. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of global market challenges, organizational scale requirements, and the processes needed to lead a rapidly growing company. Knowledge and understanding of financial reporting and controls, operational accounting, cost systems including standard cost, analysis of product line profitability, profit pricing, operational reporting, and marketing and sales planning. Understanding of the inter-relationship, the profit/loss statement and the balance sheet Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, and coordination of people and resources. Demonstrated knowledge of lean manufacturing, with a proven track record of improving manufacturing processes and reducing costs. Working knowledge of integrated ERP systems and EPR implementations. JDE Enterprise experience preferred. Adept at the leadership and management of change with the ability to diagnose and solve problems, articulate a plan, and implement solutions. Able to build and foster effective business relationships with executives, vendors and other internal and external customers/clients at all levels. Able to effectively communicate and influence sound conclusions or approaches and transfer knowledge to others. Able to operate at the strategic planning level, while also demonstrating mastery of, and ability to coach and teach, the tactical aspects of operations management. Able to work irregular and/or extended hours including weekends and holidays as needed. Able to travel overnight frequently and occasionally on short notice; travels 20-40%. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field is required; MBA or other post-graduate degree desired. 10+ years of progressive experience in operations management leading to a senior leadership role in manufacturing required; experience in heavy industrial and/or agricultural equipment industries is preferred. Previous experience as a business unit leader with full P&L responsibility for a manufacturing company or division, with full budgeting and business development responsibilities is desired. Demonstrated experience in leading product development, cross-selling opportunities, distribution networks and/or production operations is required.Working Conditions:
