The GM must work effectively as a leader, working continually to build upon relationships and develop staff to achieve the goals of the Company, the Agency Client, and State DOT. The successful applicant must be an outstanding team player, able to consistently balance competing responsibilities through effective time management and leadership skillsMinimum Experience and Skills Required:The GM must have a broad range of public transit industry knowledge and soft skills, examples include: Strong understanding of public transit, ADA, fixed route and paratransit services, scheduling, planning, and general business administration;Experience with managing people, vehicle fleets, and multiple facilities;Strategic and long-range planning; Basic financial and budget management;Exceptional leadership, interpersonal and communication skills including writing, speaking, and active listening.Effective conflict resolution, mediation, and problem solving skills.Solid organizational and time management skillsAble to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environmentCommunicate in tactful manner, react well under pressure, treat others with respect, accept responsibility for own actions, and follow through with commitments of any size;Demonstrated ability to delegate effectively; provide mentorship and sound advice when needed.
Major Responsibilities:
Prepares, recommends and monitors/compliance with annual budgetMonitors compliance with all local, State, and Federal laws, regulations, and directives. Familiar with the National Safety Plan and the directives of the FTA Public Transit Agency Safety Plan, acts as the Chief Safety Officer for the agency. Develops and reviews requirements and standards for operations, maintenance and administration departments.Complies with Federal, State and Corporate reporting requirementsWorks with maintenance manager to ensure vehicles and inventory are at acceptable levels and conditions;Accepts all responsible for the system and ensures the system remains functional at all times;Enforces adherence to Company standards of quality and performance;Motivates, leads, trains and develops exempt and non-exempt employees in a union and non-union environment;Monitors and oversees the system Safety Program;Provides periodic operating reports and statistics for the client;Manages labor relations; experienced working in a unionized environment including the ongoing maintenance and negotiated renewals of Collective Bargaining Agreements;Union labor work bidding processes, payroll management, scheduling system management, safety, training and risk management;Ability to blend business sense with common sense in the decision making process;Excellent proficiency with common business software such as Microsoft Excel and Word; Proficiency with the Adobe suite of products, such as Illustrator; Must have evidence of building solid relationships with supervisors, peers, and subordinates.Excellent communication skills;Demonstrated ability to build and continuously motivate highly effective teams;Successful track record in managing budgets and/or P&L responsibility;Ability to interface with local agencies, directors, elected officials, operators, and all levels of hourly and salaried employees, including senior management;Must be a self-starter able to obtain successful results without supervision.Salary Range: $80,640 - $100,800Minimum Education and Certifications Required:
Minimum of five (5) years in transit management or a related field with increasing responsibilities;High school or equivalent required;Bachelor’s degree in business, transportation or related fields strongly preferred;Ability to obtain or maintain a valid DOT Medical Certification. Valid driver’s license (CDL Class B with Airbrakes and Passenger endorsements preferred)Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:
