Job Description

Reporting to the Old Mutual Limited Chief Risk Officer (CRO), you will play a critical role in overseeing and managing the overall risk management framework for the OML Group. You will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks that could impact the company's operations, financial sustainability, license to operate and reputation. This role requires strong leadership, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of risk management principles and best practices within the financial services industry. 

This role guides the Old Mutual Limited (OML) CRO, Executive Committee and Board Risk Committee on overall, vision and direction for Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and risk strategy.

The successful incumbent will lead the non-financial Risk Centres of Expertise as well as the Group Forensics Function (including the Due Diligence Function) and the Group Insurance Function.  The Risk Centres of Expertise are collectively responsible for internal and regulatory risk reporting, methodology and record keeping, oversight and monitoring of strategic execution and the change portfolio, operations and Information technology, as well as the external environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provides guidance to the OML CRO, Executive and Board Risk Committees on overall vision and direction for ERM.Oversees the development of an effective ERM framework that supports the achievement of OML's overall goals & objectives.Assists business units to implement risk management systems in accordance with the Group approved ERM framework.Develops, communicates and assists in implementation of OML Risk Management policies.Creates effective reporting processes to meet information requirements of OML for risk aggregation and concentration of risk exposure.Provides Advisory & line 2 oversight on key strategic programmes.Guides the business in improving organisational resilience and crisis management processes.General risk advisory to business on matters relating to corporate actions and reputational risk management.The role may include performance of a risk partner role to a specific business unit.Leads the following teams:Risk Integration and GovernanceNon-financial Centres of Expertise, including Operational, IT, and strategic/external risk Group Forensic Services (including Due Diligence Function)Risk Partners for the OMLACSA lines of businessGroup insurance program

Key Result Areas/Outputs

Risk Management

Sets objectives and performance measurement for areas under leadership.Drives operational excellence by developing best risk practices and professional expertise.Communicates and implements the ERM system through other managers and their teams.

Risk Reporting

Ensures risk reports and risk management self-assessment results are provided to the OML Executive and Board Risk Committees.Maintains and enhances reporting systems to meet information requirements for aggregation and concentration of OML risk exposure.Reviews risk management information received from reporting entities.

Stakeholder Management

Builds and maintains relationships with key stakeholders such as the OML Exco, OML Board Risk Committee Chair, external governance providers and Group Internal Audit Director.Engages effectively and constructively with industry bodies and regulatorsActively participate in Group Risk Compliance and Actuarial Exco.

Management / Team Effectiveness

Develops direct reports and builds a strong team culture.Holds direct reports accountable for performance and people management, e.g. selection, diversity and talent management.Grows talent pipeline within area.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in risk management, governance, business administration, finance or a related field. Advanced degree (e.g. MBA, MSc) and relevant certifications (e.g. FRM, CRM, ARM) are preferred.Proven experience (5+ years) in enterprise risk management within the financial services industry, with a strong understanding of operations and technology, insurance products, underwriting processes, and regulatory requirements.Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage and mentor a team of risk professionals.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.Sound knowledge of risk management frameworks, methodologies, and tools, such as risk assessment matrices, scenario analysis, and risk modelling software.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, being aware of the external environment and adapt to evolving risk landscapes.
