Position Summary:

MPLX Gathering & Processing – West Region is seeking a Project Engineer to support the development and execution of crude oil and natural gas gathering projects, including pipeline and compression infrastructure. This role will be responsible for managing full project lifecycles—from concept through commissioning—ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget, while complying with company engineering standards and regulatory requirements.

This position requires prior experience in project engineering, with a strong background in hydrocarbon gathering systems, pipelines, and compression/pump station facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the planning, design, and execution of crude oil and natural gas gathering system projects, including pipelines, pump stations, and compression facilities.Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and technical documentation for internal approval and execution.Manage engineering design consultants and contractors, ensuring alignment with project objectives and company specifications.Coordinate internal stakeholders (Operations, Environmental, Safety, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Business Development, etc.) throughout project development and execution phases.Ensure project compliance with MPLX engineering standards, industry codes (e.g., ASME, API, DOT), and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.Support procurement and contracting processes by preparing technical bid packages, evaluating vendor proposals, and assisting with award recommendations.Lead and participate in project reviews, including HAZOPs, constructability reviews, and design reviews.Oversee construction and commissioning activities in coordination with field personnel and contractors, ensuring safe and efficient startup of facilities.Maintain thorough project documentation, including cost tracking, change management, and close-out reports.Provide technical support during permitting processes and assist with resolving engineering and construction issues as they arise in the field.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or related discipline) from an accredited institution.Minimum 5 years of experience in project engineering for oil & gas infrastructure, preferably in crude oil or natural gas gathering.  Strong working knowledge of midstream facilities, including gathering systems, compression, pipelines, pump stations, and storage facilities.  Experience in project management methodologies and toolsFamiliarity with process simulation and hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HYSYS, PROMAX, Synergi, or similar) is preferred.Experience with PSM-covered facilities and process safety reviews is desirable.

Other Requirements:

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field sites as required.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic project environment.Strong team orientation with the ability to collaborate across technical and operational disciplines.
