Functional Skills Tutor
Salary: Starting salary £28,438, rising to £30,253 (upon successful completion of your 9-month probationary period) Location: Office-based at either Reading, Guildford of Basingstoke with travel across the South Central region. Your Role As Functional Skills Tutor, you will plan, deliver and assess engaging and effective functional skills sessions (English, Maths and/or ICT) to learners aged 18 and over, ensuring they achieve accredited qualifications and develop core skills needed for employment and further learning. You will bring a real passion for creating engaging sessions that bring Maths, English and ICT to life, not just teaching but inspiring; through innovative lesson delivery, integration of students’ hobbies and interests, and the energy you will bring to the classroom. Your Responsibilities + Deliver Functional Skills (English, Maths, and/or ICT) at Entry Level to Level 2 in group and 1-1 settings. + Working with customers to design a tailored functional skills learning plan to suit their individual needs. + Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive, and differentiated lessons that cater to a range of learning styles and abilities. + Prepare learners for Functional Skills assessments and support them through the examination process. + Track learner progress and maintain accurate records using the organisation's systems. + Provide feedback and support to help learners achieve their targets and progress. + Embed employability and life skills within teaching to promote learner development. + Attend standardisation meetings and participate in CPD activities to ensure compliance with awarding body and organisational requirements. + Liaise with other tutors, support staff, and employers (if applicable) to support learner achievement Your Skills & Experience Essential + Passion for our values: Kindness, Respect, Integrity, Innovation + Recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, CertEd, Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training). + Level 2 or above qualification in English and Maths. + Experience delivering Functional Skills in a classroom or work-based learning environment. + Knowledge of current Functional Skills curriculum and assessment requirements. + Strong organisational and time-management skills. + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
