A Pastry Cook II is responsible for preparing a variety of desserts, pastries, and other baked goods. They must ensure the quality of ingredients, maintain equipment, and create recipes that meet the establishment’s standards. The ideal candidate should have a passion for baking and a keen eye for detail.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Prepare a wide variety of baked goods such as cakes, cookies, pies, and bread. Follow traditional and modern recipes to meet quality standards. Measure and combine ingredients using mixers, blenders, heat sources, and other equipment. Decorate pastries and desserts to ensure beautiful and exciting presentations. Maintain a clean and tidy working area. Follow all food safety procedures. Receive, and store supplies properly. Perform tests to ensure dough or batter is mixed to the right consistency. Remain current on cooking trends and best practices. Monitor baking progress using specific tools like thermometers or toothpicks. Support leadership in training of new techniques and products Follow all company standards and expectations
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:
Proven experience as a Pastry Cook, baker, or in a relevant role. Great attention to detail and creativity. Knowledge of baking techniques and food industry regulations. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills. Advanced knowledge of traditional pastry baking techniques. Creative ability in designing, decorating, and filling confectionery. Ability to coordinate with other chefs and manage pastry section staff. In-depth knowledge of food industry regulations. *Must be servsafe certified Must be able to push, pull, lift and carry up to 25-50 pounds. Overhead lifting may be required. Must be able to walk or stand for up to 8 hours.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Education: A degree or certification in culinary arts or a related field is often preferred.
Experience: Previous experience as a Lead Cook, Line Cook, or Pastry Cook.
