Description Our client, located in Houston, TX is seeking an Accountant to join their Finance team on a contract-to-hire basis. This individual will play a critical role in advancing our mission as we forge into the next phase of research. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial and Operational Officer (CFO/COO), you will be responsible for leading full-cycle accounting functions. Responsibilities: - Ensure timely payments of bills through diverse systems - Record deposits received into the QuickBooks Online Advanced accounting system - Oversee payroll processing with our third-party administrator - Manage month-end close, including accruals, prepaids, deferred revenue, reclasses, and other journal entries - Ensure consistency between QuickBooks, bank, credit card, and Bill.com - Monitor project incomes and costs - Prepare annual 1099 tax forms and assist with annual audit schedules - Aid the CFO in creating the annual budget and in completing the 990 tax return Requirements Required Education and Experience: - A Bachelor's degree in Accounting - 3 years of relevant experience, with a preference for candidates with non-profit 501c3 accounting experience - Proficient knowledge of MS Excel (intermediate or higher level) - Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online.
