Location Description The Courtyard by Marriott Birmingham Downtown at UAB is a rewarding place to work in the historic, upscale and exciting city of Birmingham—the largest city in Alabama. Overview We are looking for a highly motivated, customer focused leader to join our Guest Services team as Guest Services Manager. The successful candidate for this role will have a proven track record of developing a team to provide exceptional service, is open to learning and leading by example, responds in a professional and courteous manner to guests and team, as well as being there to support the team both personally and professionally. Every day is different, but you’ll mostly be: Serving as the main point of contact for VIP Guests and ensuring hotel departments are fully briefed on their requirements. You will be involved in the Financial performance of the hotel with responsibilities to include managing the annual budget, maintain labor costs to forecast/budget, manage spending accounts and review monthly Profit & Loss reports. You will develop and mentor a team for the Front Desk Agents, Bell Staff, Concierge You will ensure proper training materials are in place and used by each department. Implement coaching, career planning and recognition programs for all associates. You will monitor room inventory, rate and plan availability and lead the team to maintain average daily rate to ensure revenue maximization forecasting occupancy. You will lead by example to ensure all guest interactions are handled in a professional manner. Provide exceptional customer service by being engaging and taking sincere interest Help to resolve problems and “WOW” guests through recovery when things aren’t quite right Works closely with the Maintenance and Housekeeping teams to communicate and coordinate the day Interact with hotel staff in a professional manner, assisting other departments with necessary information Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Prior hospitality Guest Services Manager experience is a must! Requires thorough knowledge of the hotel services and guest relations profession. Excellent command of English; verbal, reading and writing, and can effectively communicate information; a second language is desirable. Excellent speech communication skills required to communicate with guests in directions, problems, train staff, staff presentations, telephone communications. Excellent comprehension and literacy required to analyze report data, prepare reports, respond in writing to guests. Ability to deal with difficult interactions and work under pressure. Flexibility to respond to a variety of different work situations. A passion for delivering an exceptional level of guest service following Marriott's brand service of excellence standards. Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends and/or holidays when required. Must have computer skills and ability to work with various programs (MS Office, Opera, etc.) Ability to stand on feet for long periods, up to entire shift; walk and/or continuous movement to perform job requirements behind the front desk. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. on occasion. Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations. This role requires the flexability to work with no restrictions, both AM and PM shifts, weekdays and weekends. The 5 day a week schedule will vary weekly based on business demands. Education/Experience: High School diploma /Secondary qualification or equivalent. At minimum, three (3) years of Guest relations Manager or hotel front desk manager. Prior managerial experience working in a customer service function in a luxury hotel.
