The Opportunity: To move units to warehouse and/or load units onto the machines or trucks in a safe and efficient manner. Operators are responsible for ensuring all units are banded properly, have a clear load tag, and that there are no broken or missing straps. Operators must ensure all unit and truck counts are correct, all paperwork is accurate for all units shipped and all materials received. The position is responsible for performing a quality inspection on all units shipped and materials received. The operator is responsible for understanding FIFO to ensure that inventory does not become aged. * Hours: 1 week 7a-3p, the next week 3p-11p, then swing back to 7a-3p, then 3p-11p etc. This is the 8-hr daylight swing shift in Shipping and Receiving department * Pay Rate: $17.93 and after probationary it increases to $21/hr. How you will impact Smurfit Westrock: * Read and understand an order spec sheet, load tags, unitizing, palletizing and shipment planning documents. * Understand terminology to assure customer receives a quality product\u2014score fracture, loose liner, warp boards, out of line, KLA white, Kraft, B-Flute, C-Flute, Doublewall. * Proficiency in operating the forklift\u2014up/down, side shift, forward/backward. * Perform daily forklift inspection prior to operation and clean the forklift as needed. * Demonstrate the ability to operate and travel in a safe and efficient manner. * Safely change propane tanks when emptied using proper lifting techniques. * Proficiency on the backline, transferring units to a pallet without causing damage to the unit, and orderly stacking practices. * Proficiency in loading the machine centers with paper and working with machine operators to coordinate run order. * Loading trucks proficiently with or without pallets. * Proficiency in locking and unlocking trucks to the docks, raising and lowering the dock plates, and using chocks when a strait truck is being used * Understand the green light, yellow light, and red light inside and outside of the plant/loading dock area * Comprehend instructions given by supervisors and ability to get along and have a good working relationship with other employees and vendors What you need to succeed: * High School diploma or equivalency. * Ability to deal with other employees and management in a courteous, tactful, and patient manner. * Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment - minimum of 3 years Forklift Operator experience * Good understanding of machinery and good mechanical ability/aptitude. * The ability to learn and safely perform all job functions as a Forklift Operator. * The ability to read, write, comprehend, and interpret written and electronic instructions on load tags, load sheets, diagrammed palletizing specs, SOP\u2019s and daily PIT inspections logs. * Follow direction, work as a team member and be willing to assist on various other projects as needed. * The position requires ability to successfully complete PIT Training and pass the written and operations skills test to be a certified Forklift Operator. Physical Requirements The employee must comply with all assigned PPE for the position. May be required to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) occasionally. Sitting or standing up to 12 hours per day and walking to and from various machines and locations throughout the facility. Ability to grasp objects with hands and fingers.
