Food Safety & Quality Engineer

What your role is We are looking for a talented Food Safety & Quality Engineer, based in Greece or Spain reporting directly into the EUAU Associate Quality Manager. As a Food Safety & Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for championing supplier food safety, managing ingredient material categories, and working with both internal and external partners to ensure the safety of General Mills’ products and processes. You will also have the unique opportunity to impact the Innovation, Technology, and Quality (ITQ) function by leveraging your knowledge and skills to provide technical expertise, become a leader of global connections, and be recognized as a valued partner for our plant, sourcing, and business teams. You will leverage your strong project management skills, be results orientated, and be able to find opportunities for value creation in order to help the company succeed. The projects you manage in this role will provide you with a high level of cross-functional exposure and will accelerate your ability to navigate and influence across our organization. Responsibilities: Conduct maintenance audits and qualification audits for new locations or new lines to support the business. Conduct vendor food safety audits, perform risk assessments and manage exception decisions as they relate to policies, procedures and specifications. Document audit report and be responsible for follow-up to drive risk reduction for General Mills International (GMI). Continue to build a strong food safety culture with the supplier network. Provide training and support to suppliers as needed on ingredients, programs, processes and systems. Support the plants when significant supplier-related non-conformities occur. Utilize results and trends to evaluate supplier performance and support the development of long-term preventative actions to address key gaps. Reviews and ensures maintenance of the supplier database to provide reliable information for the status of the External Quality Management (XQM) program in the region Provide support as needed for global XQM and regional XQM initiatives, including but not limited to process improvements, process standardization, and team development Responsible for specific categories to drive expertise and standardize category management globally. Champion material supplier food safety and regulatory compliance. Manage specific material categories by identifying and reducing supplier food safety and regulatory risk, providing technical category expertise, ensuring specification compliance and assessing supplier performance; provide food safety, quality and regulatory training with our suppliers and external GMI partners. What you will bring to the team A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Food Science or Related Science Field such as Chemical Engineering with 2+ years of minimum relevant Food Safety & Quality experience. Ability to apply and understand engineering principles to troubleshoot and provide technical leadership to internal and external teams. You will have the ability to influence diverse audiences/customers by communicating clearly and effectively. Ability to work independently & be okay with it, being a self-starter who has the ability to prioritize workload while meeting commitments. Fluency in English and a second language is highly desirable given our global reach. This a remote job that will require the ability to travel up to 50% of time & flexible travel schedule (though the majority of travel can be planned in advance).
